  1. Got my leather edition of mistborn, and some interesting info about Harmony. I've wondered about this for awhile, and interestingly, while Sanderson confirms the possibility, he basically says it won't happen. (At least not with Harmony). The question was: "Like Adonalsium, could Harmony split into 2 shards OTHER THAN ruin/preservation with the right intent." (then in the comment section of my order I clarified as follows) "You once stated that it is plausible that with a different intent Adonalsium could have shattered into a DIFFERENT 16 shards. You have also said that Harmony is one shard (or could be viewed this way.) My question: Could Harmony split/be split into 2 shards OTHER THAN ruin/preservation (yet still complementing/opposite) with the right intent of the splitter? (And if not is this because Harmony is still too invested in scadrial as ruin/preservation?) His answer: "Almost anything is possible... but it is very, very unlikely that Harmony would split except back to ruin/preservation." My thoughts: while this may not happen with Harmony (and maybe goes against common sense for the shards?) It could happen at some other time or situation with another "double shard". Also, when he says it's "unlikely he would split EXCEPT back to ruin/preservation"... I don't want to read too much into this, but to me it sounds like there's a distinct possibility Harmony would split , if the right circumstances arose. (It Not unlikely anyways)

  5. Things I overheard the jumping coach say while running my distance workout: 1: If you don't do this right, if you don't do what I'm telling you, 2 things will happen. 1: You will come up short, miss the pit, you will fall on the ground, and it will hurt like hell. 2: I will point and laugh at you. I'm just that kind of guy. 2: Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus, and Shin Splints. Don't exist. I am very glad he isn't my coach.

  9. When you're watching Tangled and you think to yourself, "Yeah but clearly it's not her hair itself that's Invested. The original investiture was present in the flower which was then transferred to Rapunzel presumably through her blood, and also manifests through her tears. Gothel shouldn't have withered."

  10. Did you know? Your birth order affects your personality! If you're the first child, then you're more likely to be a natural leader, a high achiever, bossy and a follower of the rules. If you're the middle child, then you're more likely to be flexible, easy going, secretive, and generous. If you're the youngest child, then you're more likely to be a risk taker, outgoing, competitive, and bored easily. If you're an only child, then you're more likely to be close to your parents, dependable, demanding, and sensitive If you were orphaned at birth and raised by your aunt and/or uncle, then you're more likely to be whiny, have a good relationship with a mysterious old man, gifted with supernatural powers, and the chosen one.

  11. So I call myself the Shard Traveler for many reason. The first of which is my is to own and read every Brandon Sanderson book ever owned so I can know and talk about the entire Cosmere. The second would be because I plan to be the apprentice of Hoid when some day he can't carry on... for any peculiar reason. So far I've read the books of Mistborn, Stormlight Archives, Alcatraz V.S. the Evil Librarians, Reckoners, Elantris, WhiteSand, DragonSteel, and WarBreaker which are all very REAL and FACTUAL history books of the Cosmere. My real and full name is Relevart Drahs, But you can call me Reli. Also it's Shard Traveler backwards! Also I'm a GIRL, and might I had that also keeps her safe hand covered. I hope you can to me because I really am with the 17th Shard all the way. Shard Traveler

  13. QF22: Ghosts in the Night Or: Two-Headed Elimination The Ghostbloods are well-known for being a secretive organisation. It could be said that this secrecy is the only reason they have existed for such a long period of time. They carefully pick and choose their people, evaluating each individually before adding them to their members. They operate in small groups, each only aware of the one they report to and the others in their group. Everything has been done to minimise risk should one of their number be caught. The secrecy the organisation has thrived on has now bled completely through into the very lives of their members. It is said that a half-decent Ghostblood could walk out the door, and suddenly they would be a completely different person. A different face, different hair, all changed within a matter of seconds. It is for this reason that they are known as ghosts, an ethereal presence that many doubt even exists. But through time, they have become complacent, and their hidden nature has started to work against them. Their recruitment methods have become lax, slowly, and they have been infiltrated by their enemies. The Sons of Honour walk amongst their members, their own secrecy preventing them from finding out who they are. The order came down from someone - who, no-one knew - to purge the Ghostbloods of these people. The ghosts are grim, but determined in their task. The Sons of Honour are their enemy, they know this, and if they are left unanswered, they will slowly dismantle the organisation from within. They must be eradicated before that can happen, if the organisation is to have any chance to survive. In the quiet, forgettable town that this division operates in, an unnatural hush has fallen over the night. The normal folk go about uneasy, keenly aware that something is not right but unable to figure out what it is and entirely powerless to stop it. Within the houses, Ghostblood agents make careful plans to deal with the threat from the Sons of Honour, using their skills of subterfuge and skullduggery to fool their neighbours, friends, and even their family. But when every potential threat in the town is two-faced, how can one tell who is a friend, and more importantly, who is a foe? The Rules The variant is the same as a normal set of Elimination, but with one major difference; At the beginning of the game, the GM assigns half the players to be Day Players, and half the players to be Night Players. Players are then paired up, Day/Night, until everyone is in a pair (all pairs will be completely Village or completely Eliminator). In the event of an odd number of players, one player is both Day and Night. Day Players may not post in the main thread unless it is the Day, and vice versa. The pairings between players are hidden, and only the player knows who their partner is. However, all players start the game aware of whether each player is a Day or Night Player. Each player pair shares an Alignment and has the same Role, and they share a Role/Action PM. If a player dies, then the paired player dies with them. Day Players may not talk in PMs unless it is with their pair. Players may talk to their other half via the PM, regardless of whether it is a Day or Night Turn. In the event of one half becoming inactive for a complete Cycle within both thread and PMs, the active half may request to the GM that they take over both Day and Night. This will be stated to happen publicly if it occurs. During the Day, Day Players can discuss in the thread and place votes for another Day Player to lynch. Night Players cannot be voted for. This Turn will last for 48 hours. During the Night, Night Players may target other Night Players with their Action and if PMs are open, talk to other Night Turn players. Day Players cannot be talked to via PM or targeted by Actions. This Turn lasts 24 hours. There are no cross-Turn Actions. It is possible that the game will be Role Madness, but not by any means definite. Rollover will be at 9PM GMT, and the game will begin on Tuesday 14th at 9PM GMT. Roles Assassin - The Assassin's job for the Ghostbloods is to take out anyone who may be a threat. They have the ability to use a Kill Action every Night. Backup - The Backup has been trained in one of the other Roles, but lacks the go-ahead to use his skills. If a player with the Role that the Backup has dies, then a Backup is randomly selected among the eligible Backups to become that Role. The Backup Role cannot be detected until they become that Role. The Backup is aware of their Role. Hired Goon - The Hired Goon's job is to be a target while other Ghostbloods carry out a mission, and is hardened and tough in combat. The Thug's first death is nullified. Messenger - While at least one Messenger is alive, players may send messages to other players within their Turn. Shadow - The Shadow is able to conceal his own nature, and potentially that of another as well. Players targeted by the Shadow's ability cannot have their Day Player, Alignment or Role discovered. Spy - Who said that the Ghostbloods didn't have their own agents amongst the Sons of Honour? Each Night, the Spy may dig up information on a player, confirming whether or not they are a Son of Honour. Stalker - The Stalker is able to stealthy follow a player back home each Night, and is informed the identity that they go by during the Day. Strategist - The Strategist is privy to knowledge that most are not. Each Night, they may use their Action to discover another player's Role in the organisation. Surgeon - The Surgeon's task is to prevent the deaths of the Ghostbloods. They may save a player (excluding themselves) from death each Night. Alas, despite the theme of the game, Kas is buried in work, so I have no co-GM. Anyone want to volunteer? Mission Countdown Quick Links: Player List

  14. Hello! We are the Captains Domon! Two of us operate this user on a daily basis. Bayle and Rodel are our identities. We will post stuff whenever we feel like it, and try to leave something meaningful in your heart and a taste of mac and cheese in your mouth. Bayle is a fan of DC, plays the trumpet, and his favorite book is The Way of Kings. Rodel is a fan of Marvel, plays the viola, and his favorite book is Warbreaker. As you can tell, our aliases derive from the amazing series The Wheel of Time. Bayle will mainly write reviews and theories for consideration, and will also be editing Coppermind. Rodel will be writing a weekly fan fiction story, sometimes long, sometimes short, and will also do stuff in the entertainment section. We hope we make an impression and rise to the title of King's Wit!

  15. Hello, everyone. I know that this is probably going to be my first impression on anyone reading this, so I'll try not to make too much of a fool of myself. Or maybe I should just to throw you all for a loop and see if anyone responds out of pity. A tantalizing possibility... In all seriousness, it's nice to meet you all. I've been reading Brandon's books for several years but I've never really thought to join this site before. But here I am... and probably indistinguishable from all of the other people on this website. But that's okay, right? So I guess I should say a bit about myself to at least give you guys a vague image of who I am. I'm a new writer who's trying to take a crack at the fantasy genre. This probably doesn't surprise anyone, but Brandon's books inspire me and I get a lot of my ideas from what he writes about. I'm pretty much your stereotypical nerd, but almost as a nerd hipster/heretic. Basically, I like nerdy board/card/video games, but all of my favorite games are so obscure and weird that even most nerds haven't heard of them. If anyone else enjoys playing Android: Netrunner, Doomtown: Reloaded, Caverna, The World Ends with You, or Mother 3, you're in good company. *hears crickets chirping in the background* Well, I can't really think of anything else to say about myself right now. Normally I play the "I'm an aspiring writer" card when I have to describe myself, but I feel like that doesn't get me much mileage here. But if people just remember me as the weird person who plays weird games, that will make me happy for now. A bad internet image is better than none, right? ...On second thought, maybe not so much. I'm not entirely sure whether or not I was actually trying to make a fool out of myself to attract pity, but I feel like now is a good place to end my intro. I hope that you all have a wonderful day.

  23. Drake You should be ashamed of yourself. Hands down, your puns are the worst so far. But who nose? Maybe someone who has an even lamer sense of humor might come along. *shudders. Wouldn't that just be the worst? I'm sorry. I will fully understand if you give me the cold shoulder for the rest of the day. I...better quit while I'm a head, yeah? *legs off Also, did I miss Drake voting for Darkness? I only see Drake's vote on Alv. Did he switch it? Over and over, his blades sang. The Thrill was a pounding chorus dominating him. It sharpened his focus, his senses. Every single sound he heard in perfect clarity, every strike he made accompanied with a dark glee. Uther was tiring, yet he put up a strong fight. He was a worthy opponent, and he was glad of that. It would be glorious indeed to end this man, who had both saved his life and now sought to kill him. At the back of his mind, he struggled, even as his blades traced intricate patterns in the air, even as the Thrill thundered in joy at an almost-slip which brought his dagger an inch away from Teresh's face. He had never fought so well, even when he still had his eyes. In its own way, the Thrill was helping him. He laughed as Uther unleashed a master counterattack. He laughed when he felt the blade trembling. It was wrong, so wrong. Somewhere inside him he realized that Uther had done nothing but save his life, over and over. IHe would have felt nauseous. Horrified. A part of his was so grateful that it was Uther fighting him, and not him effortlessly cutting down a battalion of soldiers. He imagined the guilt might have killed him even if the Thrill released him. He was laughing. He was weeping. Inside his head, he heard the laughter of the darkness and the relentless singing. Why. WHY did this Thrill keep tormenting him? What could he do? Where was... Why did she - His foot slid off the ground. For a single infinite moment, he was weightless. He felt the swish of a sword just pass inches above his face. Then he crashed to the ground, gasping. His body hurt. It hurt so much, and he wasn't healing. Every cut and bruise he had accumulated since the battle ached, and he wasn't healing. Why wasn't he healing "Hithon, please!" Before he could spring to his feet, a scorching blast of heat washed the area directly in front of him, causing him to step back in shock. "We are not your enemies!!" Where are you? Hithon paused for a moment. A voice, his own? It was saying something. "Help me" And then he was surging forwards again. This time, Uther would fall. @Drake Marshall

  25. I used the video on YouTube from the Boskone reading of the Oathbringer prologue to update the transcription made by /u/RyanEl on Reddit, @Kanrei and @jofwu, since @jofwu said he lacked the motivation after transcribing the Interlude. Also I transcribed Brandon's recent introduction and replaced the old one. The reading in Boskone didn't cover the whole prologue, since there wasn't enough time, I will mark in the transcription where it ends. A little remark to the Condensation of shardblades: That explanation is physically just wrong. Condensation (resublimation, strictly speaking) is an exothermic process since atoms/molecules get bound and the binding energy is released to the environment. Also the entropy is reduced, since a condensed (resublimated) state has more order than the gas phase (less possible states to occupy). Even in extreme regions of the phase diagram this does not change. Condensation/resublimation stays exothermic. Additionally, while discarding the shardblade (with endothermic condensation at summoning), there should be a release of heat as this would be the reverse process. Let's just wait for some realmatic explanation, physics clearly doesn't work here.

  26. Kehen was enraged. His boys and him had been fighting the Voidbringers, pushing them back steadily. Then suddenly this Storming initiate had snuck in behind the monsters and cut them down one by one. Those would have been their kills, their honor and glory. No, Kehen wouldn’t stand for that, and neither would his men. The initiate had settled into a defensive stance, wary eyes going over their group. One of Kehen’s men rushed forward, and the initiate sidestepped his attack easily, then punched him in the gut, doubling him over. Another strike to his head knocked him sprawling. “Storming initiate. Think you can come here, steal our glory and hurt my men? Charge!” Kehen and his men rushed forward. Kehen hadn’t seen where the other initiate had come from, but suddenly he was among them, using a spear like a quarterstaff and knocking his men over. Between the two initiates, the remainder of Kehen’s squad was quickly incapacitated. Kehen himself took a blow of the spear’s haft to his head and went down, dazed. “…some sense into Hithon.” The words pounded through Kehen’s smarting skull. ‘Why was the bastard talking so loud?’ He noticed a patch on the new initiate's jacket. A Stormwarden. Why hadn’t that idiot warned them about the storm that was now raging around them? That was their only job! Kehen jumped up again and charged at the idiot. Before he’d closed the distance the butt of the man’s spear was slammed into his gut. Another blow struck the side of his helmet, knocking him down again. When he returned to consciousness, the two Initiates had disappeared. So, obviously, this RP is not from Ranatar's perspective. I wanted to take a shot at writing some people overcome by the thrill, and since that wouldn't happen to Ranatar, this had to do. For those wondering how I got away from the big voidbringer chasing me, I suspect whatever ecth is up to has her attention now.

  30. I'm fairly certain that allomantic iron is iron in its elemental form. Iron we ingest, trapped in biological molecules and the like, are in its ionic form, and would be non-burnable. When they talked about people burning trace metals, we're talking about metal impurities, like scrappings from containers, ending up in the food, which is then ingested. This would be elemental, and therefore burnable.

  31. Robert Jordan Adonalsium shatters, and the Shards turn into fragments, and the fragments turn into slivers, and even slivers fade to dust when the Shattering comes again. In a time of trial, a time yet to come, a time far past, a wind blew through the Northern Roughs. The wind was not a beginning. There are no beginnings and no ends to the Shattering of Adonalsium. But it was a beginning.

  35. It's finally (more or less) all done! Regrettably, I don't have a before pic, but rest assured this was one of the most cluttered areas of the entire house. Behold, the fruits of my labor! I moved the bulky printer/scanner/copier to a different location (it's still yet to be set up again, though), cleaned up all the loose papers and trash, organized everything else, and generally scrubbed everything very hard. What you can't see is the computer, which I also scrubbed very hard and dusted (not as thoroughly as I'd like, but it was cold out and I didn't have the proper know-how/tools for a full deep-clean. The more-or-less bit is because, while the cords are pretty much done, the area down by the power strip might need a bit of sorting.

If you are a male orphan, your love interest won't show up until your heroic quest has been going on for a while. Expect your best friend's little sister to suddenly develop a personality (that just so happens to be everything you want in a girl) around the time you enter your sixth year at school.

  44. I have answers to this! I theorized the same thing a while back, and there's actually some WoB evidence. This tells us two things. One, you can heal back abilities after being spiked, which is fascinating, but irrelevant. Two, a clear confirmation that an allomancer can burn a metalmind for feruchemical abilities without the sDNA required to do so. Keep in mind, this was before BoM, so he wouldn't just say "Yeah, that would totally work because it's the same Identity," which is another way of saying spiritual connection. It could still turn out that there's some thing we don't know that could make this not work in general, but that's compelling enough to not dismiss it out of hand.
