  1. Disclaimer: this is not intended to be sacrilegious (I'm a Christian myself). "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. And then the murders began." Not too far off from the original story anyway.

  2. Did you know? Your birth order affects your personality! If you're the first child, then you're more likely to be a natural leader, a high achiever, bossy and a follower of the rules. If you're the middle child, then you're more likely to be flexible, easy going, secretive, and generous. If you're the youngest child, then you're more likely to be a risk taker, outgoing, competitive, and bored easily. If you're an only child, then you're more likely to be close to your parents, dependable, demanding, and sensitive If you were orphaned at birth and raised by your aunt and/or uncle, then you're more likely to be whiny, have a good relationship with a mysterious old man, gifted with supernatural powers, and the chosen one.

  3. Got my leather edition of mistborn, and some interesting info about Harmony. I've wondered about this for awhile, and interestingly, while Sanderson confirms the possibility, he basically says it won't happen. (At least not with Harmony). The question was: "Like Adonalsium, could Harmony split into 2 shards OTHER THAN ruin/preservation with the right intent." (then in the comment section of my order I clarified as follows) "You once stated that it is plausible that with a different intent Adonalsium could have shattered into a DIFFERENT 16 shards. You have also said that Harmony is one shard (or could be viewed this way.) My question: Could Harmony split/be split into 2 shards OTHER THAN ruin/preservation (yet still complementing/opposite) with the right intent of the splitter? (And if not is this because Harmony is still too invested in scadrial as ruin/preservation?) His answer: "Almost anything is possible... but it is very, very unlikely that Harmony would split except back to ruin/preservation." My thoughts: while this may not happen with Harmony (and maybe goes against common sense for the shards?) It could happen at some other time or situation with another "double shard". Also, when he says it's "unlikely he would split EXCEPT back to ruin/preservation"... I don't want to read too much into this, but to me it sounds like there's a distinct possibility Harmony would split , if the right circumstances arose. (It Not unlikely anyways)

  4. Due to work commitments (and a rather annoying bout of insomnia messing with my sleep patterns) I've decided to extend this chapter another 24 hours. Good news is, everyone gets an extra day to participate in what has been the most quiet Chapter thus far. Bad news is, everyone has to wait an extra day to see what I have planned for Chapter Ten. This write up was by far the longest, but I have a feeling the next will be even more lengthy and action-packed.

  5. When you're watching Tangled and you think to yourself, "Yeah but clearly it's not her hair itself that's Invested. The original investiture was present in the flower which was then transferred to Rapunzel presumably through her blood, and also manifests through her tears. Gothel shouldn't have withered."

  6. Aaaand I'm back. There's been quite a bit of discussion while I was gone, so attempting to respond to every point seems futile. I'll just try to pick it up from here. Incoming wall of text. I think you're reading into this line a bit too much. We know that simply being of Terris blood does not grant you feruchemical abilities by itself because Wax could not tap the unkeyed goldmind in BoM. From the WoB that The One Who Connects provided, we also know that it won't even help you tap your own metalminds if you lose your feruchemy. Keep in mind, Brandon never says that Miles' Identity is changing when he gets spiked, just that the recipient may be keyed enough to access his minds. A perfectly valid interpretation of this is that while Miles' is lessened by the experience, he's not "less Miles'" so to speak. I agree with Spoolofwhool's interpretation of Identity in relation to getting spiked. They use the analogy of a barcode, but I believe there's an even more compelling example: DNA. Every part of your DNA contains your genetic blueprint. I don't think it's a coincidence that Brandon uses the term Spiritual DNA interchangeably with Spirit Web and Soul. This would jive with what we understand about healing. Lopen can heal his arm back because he never accepted the fact that he was disabled, whereas Kaladin and Kelsier think of their scars as part of who they are. Or, to use a more compelling example, if Kaladin immediately had his Identity (and thus self image, or Soul Ideal) changed when he was cut by the Shardblade, how could he heal himself? Honestly, I think Connection's WoB supports my case fairly well and fits exactly within the theorized mechanics compounding. This makes it clear that you cannot tap your metalminds if your feruchemy is spiked away. No theoretical Identity connection will help you here. Okay, maybe getting spiked changes your Identity and that's why you can't. I disagree with this entirely, seeing as Lopen went years without an arm and it didn't change how he saw himself, but I'll play along for my next point. If getting spiked changes your Identity, why can Miles burn his metalminds after getting spiked? Even more compelling, why can the Coinshot still burn his metalmind after losing a spike? He is completely losing the portion of his sDNA (and thus associated Identity) related to being a ferring, yet we have confirmation that this does not change his Identity enough to prevent him from burning his steelmind. I feel completely confident in assuming that spiking does not automatically change your Identity enough to prevent access to your own metalminds. All this talk of Identity connections, spiking changing Identity and allomancy using Identity to "remember" feruchemy to compound is very theoretical, meaning there's nothing directly supporting it's existence, but rather a potential explanation for information we're lacking. While this is possible, I think the more reasonable answer is the one we understand based on the mechanics we have been told, and the situations which have been confirmed to work. For this reason, I am going to exhaustively explain my theory on the mechanics of compounding in an effort to show how well these disparate pieces fit together to explain it. To start off, rather than speculate, what do we know? The mechanics of compounding as described by Brandon is a function of the mechanics of allomancy. As the allomancer burns the metal, Investiture is pulled from Preservation and filtered through the metal. Feruchemical Investiture present in the metal alters the shape that additional Investiture takes. Relevant WoB: Ferrings who have their feruchemy spiked away cannot access their metalminds. Relevant WoB You can burn a metalmind with allomancy for feruchemical powers even if you are not currently a feruchemist. Relevant WoB: Distinct Identities interfere with metalmind access, whether through compounding or tapping. This is shown through the scene with Vin attempting to burn Sazed's metalminds, and basically everything we know about feruchemy. Two feruchemists can both store attributes in the same metalmind, but they do not interact. Relevant WoB: Unkeyed metalminds can be tapped by anyone with the the power to do so. Spiking someone's feruchemy away, or removing a spike granting feruchemy and Identity, does not change someone's Identity enough to prevent them from compounding their metalminds. Relevant WoB: These are the facts as we understand them. Each of these statements is either confirmed in books or in WoB, and I have yet to see anyone refute them. The reason I feel my theory is so compelling is because it requires nothing outside the scope of these facts to work. Let's quickly run through the steps of performing allomancy according to Brandon: Allomancer ingests steel Allomancer draws Investiture from Preservation Allomancer Investiture is filtered through the metal, which shapes the effect of the magic. Allomancer steelpushes. Everyone else gets jealous. Now let's look at compounding according to WoB: Twinborn ingests their own steelmind Twinborn draws Investiture from Preservation Twinborn Investiture is filtered through the metamind, which is also shaped by the feruchemical Investiture when shaping the magic. Twinborn gets super speed. Everyone else gets even more jealous. Note, this is exactly the same steps as allomancy. At no point is it stated that the twinborn taps the metalmind during this process. Rather, the Investiture just needs to interact with each other to alter how the magic is shaped. I'm not theorizing here, simply stating the facts as we understand them. So let's look at compounding unkeyed metalminds according to my theory: Allomancer ingests an unkeyed steelmind Allomancer draws Investiture from Preservation Allomancer Investiture is filtered through the metamind. Because there is no Identity interference preventing them from mixing, the feruchemical Investiture present in the metalmind also shapes the effect of the magic. Allomancer gets super speed. Everyone goes out to buy medallions because they can't take the jealousy anymore. It's exactly the same. I use the term Identity interference to describe the phenomenon present throughout feruchemy because it seems applicable. We think of metalminds as something belonging to the feruchemist, but we know from statement 5 that multiple feruchemists can store into the same metal without issue because the Investiture just doesn't mix. Metalminds only "belong" to a feruchemist in as much as their unique Identity prevents their Investiture from interacting with other unique Identities, and it's clear that this concept is not unique to compounding. At this point, the theory should be obvious and simple based on what we know: mistings can burn unkeyed metalminds because there is no interference between unique Identities preventing the Investitures from interacting and shaping the magic. Really, it's not that mind blowing or out there when you get right down to it. It doesn't require anything theoretical or unknown to work, and it is not directly contradicted by anything we know. Rather, it is simply a logical extension of the mechanics and rules as we understand them, backed up by confirmed evidence, and the underlying mechanics of it satisfies every case of compounding we have discussed so far. Contrast that with the theory that a connection to your metalminds via Identity is the reason former twinborn can compound, while also being the reason former ferrings can't access their metalminds because getting spiked changes their Identity. The second part contradicts the fact that Miles' can still burn his own goldmind and thus shares an Identity with it, and the first part is predicated on a new ability of Identity which we have no direct evidence of. It feels flimsy because it has potential holes and it is inventing solutions to the problem, rather than applying the mechanics on hand. Without a completely unambiguous confirmation of either theory (or a completely new one) it is impossible to prove a theory correct, but that does not mean they're equally likely.

  7. QF22: Ghosts in the Night Or: Two-Headed Elimination The Ghostbloods are well-known for being a secretive organisation. It could be said that this secrecy is the only reason they have existed for such a long period of time. They carefully pick and choose their people, evaluating each individually before adding them to their members. They operate in small groups, each only aware of the one they report to and the others in their group. Everything has been done to minimise risk should one of their number be caught. The secrecy the organisation has thrived on has now bled completely through into the very lives of their members. It is said that a half-decent Ghostblood could walk out the door, and suddenly they would be a completely different person. A different face, different hair, all changed within a matter of seconds. It is for this reason that they are known as ghosts, an ethereal presence that many doubt even exists. But through time, they have become complacent, and their hidden nature has started to work against them. Their recruitment methods have become lax, slowly, and they have been infiltrated by their enemies. The Sons of Honour walk amongst their members, their own secrecy preventing them from finding out who they are. The order came down from someone - who, no-one knew - to purge the Ghostbloods of these people. The ghosts are grim, but determined in their task. The Sons of Honour are their enemy, they know this, and if they are left unanswered, they will slowly dismantle the organisation from within. They must be eradicated before that can happen, if the organisation is to have any chance to survive. In the quiet, forgettable town that this division operates in, an unnatural hush has fallen over the night. The normal folk go about uneasy, keenly aware that something is not right but unable to figure out what it is and entirely powerless to stop it. Within the houses, Ghostblood agents make careful plans to deal with the threat from the Sons of Honour, using their skills of subterfuge and skullduggery to fool their neighbours, friends, and even their family. But when every potential threat in the town is two-faced, how can one tell who is a friend, and more importantly, who is a foe? The Rules The variant is the same as a normal set of Elimination, but with one major difference; At the beginning of the game, the GM assigns half the players to be Day Players, and half the players to be Night Players. Players are then paired up, Day/Night, until everyone is in a pair (all pairs will be completely Village or completely Eliminator). In the event of an odd number of players, one player is both Day and Night. Day Players may not post in the main thread unless it is the Day, and vice versa. The pairings between players are hidden, and only the player knows who their partner is. However, all players start the game aware of whether each player is a Day or Night Player. Each player pair shares an Alignment and has the same Role, and they share a Role/Action PM. If a player dies, then the paired player dies with them. Day Players may not talk in PMs unless it is with their pair. Players may talk to their other half via the PM, regardless of whether it is a Day or Night Turn. In the event of one half becoming inactive for a complete Cycle within both thread and PMs, the active half may request to the GM that they take over both Day and Night. This will be stated to happen publicly if it occurs. During the Day, Day Players can discuss in the thread and place votes for another Day Player to lynch. Night Players cannot be voted for. This Turn will last for 48 hours. During the Night, Night Players may target other Night Players with their Action and if PMs are open, talk to other Night Turn players. Day Players cannot be talked to via PM or targeted by Actions. This Turn lasts 24 hours. There are no cross-Turn Actions. It is possible that the game will be Role Madness, but not by any means definite. Rollover will be at 9PM GMT, and the game will begin on Tuesday 14th at 9PM GMT. Roles Assassin - The Assassin's job for the Ghostbloods is to take out anyone who may be a threat. They have the ability to use a Kill Action every Night. Backup - The Backup has been trained in one of the other Roles, but lacks the go-ahead to use his skills. If a player with the Role that the Backup has dies, then a Backup is randomly selected among the eligible Backups to become that Role. The Backup Role cannot be detected until they become that Role. The Backup is aware of their Role. Hired Goon - The Hired Goon's job is to be a target while other Ghostbloods carry out a mission, and is hardened and tough in combat. The Thug's first death is nullified. Messenger - While at least one Messenger is alive, players may send messages to other players within their Turn. Shadow - The Shadow is able to conceal his own nature, and potentially that of another as well. Players targeted by the Shadow's ability cannot have their Day Player, Alignment or Role discovered. Spy - Who said that the Ghostbloods didn't have their own agents amongst the Sons of Honour? Each Night, the Spy may dig up information on a player, confirming whether or not they are a Son of Honour. Stalker - The Stalker is able to stealthy follow a player back home each Night, and is informed the identity that they go by during the Day. Strategist - The Strategist is privy to knowledge that most are not. Each Night, they may use their Action to discover another player's Role in the organisation. Surgeon - The Surgeon's task is to prevent the deaths of the Ghostbloods. They may save a player (excluding themselves) from death each Night. Alas, despite the theme of the game, Kas is buried in work, so I have no co-GM. Anyone want to volunteer? Mission Countdown Quick Links: Player List

  11. Mage weeps as he kills, controlled by Ruin to destroy all life, without free will, without life, all destroyed, by Ruin controlled, killing the weeping Mage. Mage sat in the empty room, leaned up against the wall, like a puppet with no strings, abandoned. He thought of nothing, saw nothing, felt nothing. His mind was empty, broken and destroyed by the atrocities he had committed, and had reveled in. In the rare moments when God was elsewhere, puppeteering other toys, Mage liked to sit and enjoy the quiet cleanliness of the room. No blood, no screams. No mad joy. A presence settled in his mind, and Mage grinned a great bloody grin. God was back, and so was happiness. He stood, and stretched, feeling the muscles pull against the 6 spikes in his chest. He cracked his neck, enjoying the grating of his spine against the lynchpin spike in his neck. He growled softly, anticipating the upcoming hunt. “Who?” Luckless Gibbs’ luck has run out. Mage grinned, and flared Steel and Pewter. He pushed hard, breaking through the wooden walls of the building, and soaring out into the misty air. The Mist shied away from him in fear, fleeing away, like a dog before it’s master. He reached out with Steelsight, finding anchors, and pushing to stay aloft. He flared Tin, and twisted midair, scanning the city below. Only a few people were left in the streets, scuttling like rats from doorway to doorway. With hundreds being executed by the king each day, and more being slaughtered in the night, no one wanted to be out during the Misting Hour. Mage looked northward, knowing that God knew where Gibbs was. He pushed off the anchor behind him, continually flaring his reserves. Zinc, to anger the citizens below, whipping them into causing all sorts of damage to the city, Brass, to sooth away thoughts of self Preservation, or love. Bronze, to look for more donor for his power, Pewter and TIn to navigate, Iron and Steel to fly. No one in this wretched city had as much power as he did. He was Magestar, god amongst men. He landed on a rooftop, crouching to survey the street below. Gibbs was hurrying along, hefting his metallic suitcase beside him. Whatever the case was, it barely registered in his Steelsight. Almost like a spike, but it felt different. No matter. Whatever it was, it was no match for a Mistborn. He flared his metals back to life inside of him, and leapt off the roof. Luckless Gibbs hefted the suitcase, feeling it’s reserves. It had barely enough to win a dice game. He’d been storing Fortune all day, hoping it would be enough to survive whatever was coming. This city was a powder keg, about to explode, and he wasn’t the man to lighten the load. WIth so many skaa, and so little food, his best bet was to leave, and come back earlier. Perhaps before Vin was around? On impulses, he tapped a small amount of fortune, and immediately tripped, his face slamming into the pavement and breaking. At nearly the same time, something flew over him, right where he had been. A man windmilled his arms as he skidded to a stop on the street, then turned to face him, a rictus grin stretched across his face. He slowly stood, squeezing his broken nose. “Magestar?” “Gibbs. Luckless Gibbs.” Mage cocked his head. “Twinborn Gibbs? Or did you fake the Pewter dragging earlier?” “Faked it.” He raised the Chromium Suitcase before him. “And I’m not Luckless, not at the moment. Got plenty enough Luck to kill you.” A complete lie, and a bluff. “I don’t think you do Gibbs.” Mage lept into the air, shooting forward like a dog after a fox. Gibbs cursed, and tapped more fortune. Sidestepping and bending in just the right way to avoid the coinshot. He didn’t look back, choosing to flee instead, still tapping a small amount of fortune, just enough to give him an edge. Just enough to trip again. Magestar growled in anger as he once again flew overhead. But this time, Gibbs landed awkwardly, wrist hitting the hard paving stones at a bad angle. He squeaked in pain, dropping the suitcase. He reached out to grab it, But Mage corrected course midair, landing hard atop Gibbs’ wrist, breaking it even more. He howled in pain as Mage crouched down, grabbing his hair. “No more Luck Gibbs. Just die already.” Mage cocked his fist back, and swung. Mage stood, wiping the blood and brains off on the front of his tunic. He smiled at the corpse before him, the newest flower in the garden of the world. Destruction, carefully cultivated until it ripened into Death. An Orchestra of disaster, cutting through the world. Excellent. Penrod will be killing himself soon, all that is left for you to go East, and take control of the Hordes. Aid Marsh and the others in killing Yomen, and you will receive your eye spikes. Mage grinned wide, and pushed into the air, reveling in his power, feeling truly alive as he always did with Ruin by his side. Of course, he had to ignore the screams from deep inside, but that was easy to do, when you had God on your side. Well! That’s that! Congratulations to Magestar, the only Eliminator, in the entire game. He successfully killed 19 mistings, and an Elantrian. Admittedly, he had some help, what with Stick and Lopen killing people as well, and the village refusing to lynch Mage, except for Alv, who refused to stick to his hunches about Mage being the spiked Coinshot.=P But, overall, Mage did most of it by himself. Admittedly, i did make him a tad bit too powerful. 9 actions a cycle was ridiculous. Still. T’was a fun game to watch, and I hope everyone had fun. GM thoughts will arrive in a day or two, but some minor things i want to get out of the way now: PM’s should have been open, or at least less limited than just tineyes. Lurchers should not have been able to protect themselves. Every. Single. Lurcher. Protected. Themself. Every. Single. Night. Selfish people. Also, only the Spear of the Survivor and the Glowing sphere items could affect the game, and neither actually did. But anyway, activity analysis will also be forthcoming, in a day or two. For now, enjoy groaning at Mage, and enjoy Mage gleefully dancing through the bloodsoaked threads. Elim Doc Spec Doc Dead Doc Master Spreadsheet

'Cause then you'd go to Roshar or something! And they don't want that, but they still want you to visit the lake! It's genius!". And everyone just gives you odd looks.

  16. I hate dealing with doctor's offices so much. I tried to call in a refill on my anti-anxiety meds at my pharmacy last week except it was expired, so I asked the pharmacy to fax the Dr for a new RX. A few days later I check back at the pharmacy and find out they faxed the wrong doctor, the one I haven't seen in several months, so obviously the prescription was denied since I'm no longer a patient there. So I called my current Dr to ask for a new RX, and now they're refusing to write me one until I've had an appt specifically for anxiety, even though they offered to write an RX like two weeks ago when I was in for something else and I declined because I thought I still had plenty of refills! Doesn't help that I'm an emotional wreck because I've already been going without the meds for almost a week now. Hugs please?

  20. Sup. Good to see another person on the shard. And I approve of you jumping right in with a theory. Have an upvote. I'm not sure we can surely conclude that Lerasium (Fuzz's real name is Leras, by the way) has temporal effects like atium does. Might be particular to atium. But, that said, its entirely possible Lerasium shares some temporal characteristics, particularly since preservation is supposed to be the shard of eternity. In regard to harmonium's feruchemical traits... I notice a pattern. Lerasium is preservation's metal, and when used with preservation's magic (allomancy) it acts sort of like a wild card, making you a full mistborn (although potentially also doing other things). Atium is ruin's metal, and when used with ruin's magic (hemalurgy) it also acts like a wild card, able to steal any attribute and do so more effectively. It might be that harmonium, harmony's metal, will act like a wildcard when used with feruchemy, harmony's magic. Meaning it could store any feruchemical attribute, more efficiently then a conventional metalmind. Just a thought. There's always another Kelsier The cookies are indeed amazing. Help yourself. Just don't eat too many or you turn into a koloss and fall under Ruin's influence get a stomach ache.

  21. Alrighty then. Here we go: Calcium: When burned, calcium grants its user the ability to imbue materials with investiture. This imbuement hardens materials to the point that they are nearly impossible to break except under extreme stress. Metal beams will not bend, and knifes will not dull. A calcium misting (a Cornerstone) wielding dueling canes might as well be smacking people with metal rods. It should be noted that metals effected this way are harder to Push or Pull on, yet the effect wears off when the metal stops burning. Ferrings able to use calcium can store sturdiness. When storing, their bones and other bits are much less durable, yet while tapping, a pewterarm would have a hard time hurting a Tower. Magnasium An alloy of calcium and magnesium, a misting who burns this metal has the ability to soften materials, essentially liquefying materials. This can be used to corrode armor, walk through walls, or for simple pottery. A magnasium misting is known as an undermine. Ferrings able to use magnasium can store their sensitivity to pain. While actively storing, an Undead will feel little to no pain, even after a severe injury. While tapping, however, the ferring will roll on the floor after a light slap on the face. @gizmowner: Sorry, I realised that I stole your pewtium after I posted this.

  25. We don't know, and when asked, Brandon did not give an answer. This mystery will be with us for a while, yet. There are several theories. Some think harmonium is involved. Some think the nicrosilminds carry the ability to tap themselves automatically. Some think it's a very advanced Realmatic interaction. There hasn't been a consensus among those of us who've considered this question before. But it's a good question to ask, nonetheless. There is much we don't understand about the medallions yet.

  29. Hey all, I've just stared to working on some vr experience based on Mistborn ( more specific on Final Empire). This is just really early prototype and I don't know if I find enough time to finish it, cause it most as a hobby for me and for my portfolio. What I was thinking is the experience will start on the roof, the user will see main title, old books on the right to get some knowledge about empire, allomancy etc. Behind there will be doors to lower floor. There on the table will be note from Kelsier, saying that he will be later for training and to start without him, also some vials with metals and coins. After that user will be start training with Iron and Steel. Really basic and not long experience. I'm creating everything for HTC Vive and you can see current progress here: If you guys have any ideas or thought I'm open for any suggestions It's not a game and I won't be selling it, I just want to know what you think about it.

  30. This is something I saw on Facebook a little earlier today and thought it could be fun. Make "And then the murders began." the second line of a story. There are some good examples, such as: For fun I looked at a few of Brandon's books and - unsurprisingly - they produced similarly funny results: Some of the others are actually strangely... not funny. A good number of Brandon's books apparently start with a line that already sets up a murderous mood (e.g. "Szeth-son-son-Vallano, Truthless of Shinovar, wore white on the day he was to kill a king" from The Way of Kings (yes, yes, that's the prologue, not the prelude; sue me) or "Marsh struggled to kill himself." from The Hero of Ages) - and so appending the "And then the murders began." doesn't have the same juxtaposing effect. And then there is this: Got anything else funny around?

  31. I get the impression there is one fundamental difference between storing memories and other attributes, like speed and strength. When you store memories, they're no longer in the your head. In the case of other attributes, I get the impression the attribute must return to you, otherwise, how would you benefit when you try to tap the metalmind later? For example: strength. While you're storing strength, you become weaker during that period. Now if you retained that weakness until you tap the metalmind, wouldn't drawing strength later just return you to your original strength? But that's not the case. When one taps the strength later, they are stronger than they were before, maybe even to superhuman levels ( depending on about stored and drawn). For this to occur, after the initial weakness while storing, the person's strength must return to normal. Otherwise they'd get no benefit from drawing their strength later. Do I understand correctly how these things work?

  34. Capitalization has kinda became force of habit. And I see them in much the same way, with the Feruchemy power just changing your natural Identity to be more/less. Not sure if that is fully accurate, but... And I see the stick example as a great comparison. Bribing it with Stormlight didn't work, which was my point. She needed the mental fortitude to overcome the personal identity, and she didn't have it. Jasnah did, since she is more experienced, but I still feel that the more time you spend believing that you are someone, the stronger your identity would get. Now that you mention the Final Empire's viewing him as the Lord Ruler.. hadn't actually considered that since I figured personal identity, but that would only make it harder, as that is 1,000 years of thousands of people seeing him as The Lord Ruler. Oh, you meant Lashings. It makes sense looking at it now... He can tap a lot of weight and not go very far at all. Double Pewter basically is crushing things. Increased size, increased strength, increased pain tolerance... its like he becomes the Hulk, but with the benefit of steel compunding speed and Zinc boosted mental capacity. Speaking of F-Zinc, that could answer the timing and accuracy of the pulling trick. The physical speed to align himself, the mental speed to make his decisions, and presto. Add in compounded weight and he could pull most anything. The boulder doesn't exist, therefore it shouldn't have an Atium shadow. (I cannot expressly confirm this, but it feels right.) As for the copies of people, Atium expands the mind to process the information, so he could dodge and take them all on for as long as he had Atium with no trouble even if they were real. As for seeing through an illusion of blackness, that's quite clever and I cannot directly contradict that yet. [Do Atium-users react to the shadows of things coming from behind them? That would negate the blinding illusion entirely if they don't need to see] He's constantly tapping F-Atium, so that adds in a lot on actively moving Investiture to counter 1,000 years of aging. I will admit that he has grown used to not needing to tap much of anything else, but the longer the fight lasts the more likely he will stop playing around and start using more abilities. And against Stormlight users, the longer the fight lasts, the worse the odds get. As strong as the Lord Ruler is, I think that is beyond him for the exact reason that the Inquisitor's can see the metal in blood. Rashek has normal eyes to see, and is content with the metal in an Allomancer's stomach. The Steel Inquisition has to reach the point of seeing trace metal in blood so that they can see anyone. I don't doubt that he is powerful enough to do it, but he doesn't have any reason to learn that he can do that. All in All, I see the Lord Ruler as a hard counter to more or less anyone. He just has too much versatility due to being Fullborn.

  35. Positive conscious change (Cultivation) <------------------No change (Preservation)--------------->Negative Conscious Change (Ruin) Ruin and Preservation worked together, for awhile, but inevitably failed. That should be enough to show how they aren't fully balanced/opposites. Ruin & Cultivation is called nature/cycle of life...Stuff grows, then it dies and decays, then it grows again, Oh no our crops got burned because of a fire, oh it turns out that is actually good for the ground and everything prospers, everybody happy. The end. I do like the idea of a fourth shard coming into play here. It feels like it makes the most sense, if there are groupings/pairings. (just for these shards as far as i have thought) Chaos (unplanned change) Cultivation (positive conscious change) Ruin (Negative Conscious change) Preservation (no change)

  36. Comments. The first paragraph is a killer. There are really long sentences and it’s 90% descriptive – I would seriously consider chopping a lot of that detail. As a reader, I want character first, setting second. “passengers to unboard” – ‘disembark’, I would suggest, maybe ‘debark’, although I never liked that word, sounds like something you do to a tree. “Oh. You know him then?” – The discussion about Snec works so much better when I’ve met him already. “and I thought his smile was nice” – this is a really nothing word. I reckon in any situation one might use ‘nice’ there are at least ten other words that are better, or convey some of emotion – for me, nice does next to nothing. “but I’d rather be a galley-slave than a priest,” he added with a hint of venom” – this is the first sentence where I really felt much insight into or engagement with one of the characters, because of the revelation of something that might otherwise have been hidden. Somehow, I feel like this version is wordier than the last. There’s a lot to be said for compact and efficient narrative. Also, I think part of the wordiness is down to there being a fair bit of telling, explaining things that the reader would be more satisfied (I think) in working out for themselves. For example, “getting two meant Cel was very, very smart indeed.” Don’t tell the reader the answer, let them find it, in this case, you could say “getting two was unheard of.” I think using this type of approach, you get more reader investment for fewer words – double win. “shattered parts of a confused rainbow” – nice impression. “Janus” – huh? Was this his name before? I don’t remember, but it’s easier to handle as a reader than Cela. “Janus Celatian” – oh, I see, must have missed a bit. Cela’s sudden need to east is strange. I don’t have a handle on him yet, but I feel like he’s near the edge of being annoying – not sure on which side. I really like how one hand does one thing, and the other another – nice touch. This feels like that Dan Wells thing – explain one small detail and get reader buy-in to the big things. “he said with another dazzling smile” – Yeah, I feel like he’s turned up too loud for my taste in characters, and her reaction to him feels too easy, like he’s already ‘won’. “this might actually improve your chances” – of what? Don’t follow. I think I’ve covered it in my comments. I think this chapter still has edits to go to streamline it and make it more digestible. Some good stuff though, just weighed down by too many words, I think. <R>

  38. Yeah, Feruchemical gold can heal shardblade wounds. Assuming that you an active line of healing is good enough to keep you going even if your spine gets severed (which I would guess is likely, given the (physically) traumatic stuff Miles goes through), then TLR should be able to heal no matter what. There is the long-term soul-scarring issue, but eh. More concerningly TLR really isn't a good candidate for a Versus match, since at the top of his game he simply wins. Functionally infinite Feruchemical steel alone is probably enough to one-shot essentially anyone without some special immunity, not to mention literally everything else TLR can do.

  40. Actually I think it's the reverse. Naturally due to all the UV EVERYONE on the world should be dark skinned. But those living on Dayside get 'beached' out due to the Investiture leaking into them. Think of it as a weaker version of what Elantrins go through.

  42. I think you are reading too narrowly on the oath. It is not a statement of intention on a specific political situation, but rather a way of life. It means that whenever you face a choice, you must try to bring people together rather than dividing them. From helping nations getting along to persuading riotous kids to make peace with each other, you want to strive to unite people.

  43. Hmm. My read on Quirk right now is that he is pretty self-assured in his actions and thoughts. He feels no shame or embarrassment when he admires that man's butt in the early chapter, which to me sounded like a man who knew what he liked. If you want him to be somewhat closeted, I could see him making excuses to himself like 'I admire beauty no matter the form' or something akin. Then there could be some later internal monologue about his progression into 'maybe it's more than admiration... a well chiseled form...' Anyway, if the above were the case, his reaction to Moth would likely be more defensive in dismissal. “Not a child, Mr. Queer.” The girl, Angelika (Yeah, right.), looked up from under dark brows, her eyes red and her cheeks damp, but she was angry now. So was he; one could take pride in one's appearance and admire the occasionally well-shaped arse without wanting to *expletive* it. Of course if you do that, you're setting up a reader promise that Quirk will be doing some self discovery as the piece progresses. Which really, I think would play well into the Moth dynamic, because my goodness, her snide remarks every time Quirk's eyes flick sideways at a gentleman... If you want to stick with the self-doubt as you wrote it, I think you'd need to trail more of that earlier on. Right now Quirk carries himself pretty strongly, so to so suddenly have us blasted with self-doubt reads funny. Yes, his queerness could be his sore spot, but somehow I can't see him being so open, even with himself, about that sore spot. Did that make any sense? I think I got rambly. You might want to read a M/M romance by a male author just to get a feel for what exactly would be admired, too. I can't help on that front (but I can recommend some authors).
