  1. For a second, Lyla was silent. Except it didn't feel like a second, it felt like several days, and she wasn't saying anything, but that was only because she was running out of synonyms for 'sparking' and 'awesome'. "That is. It's. Wow." She tried not to hear how utterly lame that sounded. "That is so.... and you're like wow, and..." She couldn't contain herself any longer. "I've gotta get a picture with you!" She hesitated -just slightly- before pushing her camera into doctor Games hands. "Wait, better idea! Poses! Like, cross your knives at my throat, or act like you're gonna stab me! That'll look really dramatic and awesome, and can you do sound effects? Like with words? It's be like a real life comic book!"

  2. Day 1: Whispers on the Wind The wind was soft, almost intangible, as it flowed across the jungles of Nalthis. The city of Hallandren was sweltering under an oppressive heat, as the summer sun beat relentlessly down. The light fingers of air caressed sun-darkened cheeks and burned forearms as they passed, the meager relief was soon forgotten. But the breeze carried with it something intangible. A half-spoken, half-felt word that struck to the heart and bared the soul. Adonalsium. The stormlands of Roshar felt it next, the fury of the highstorms laying siege to the battered landscape. The stormfury roared aloud, and men cowered under a elemental force of nature, almost a god in itself. But in the midst of the sound and tumult, that name was shouted aloud to the remorseless sky. In the recesses of the city of Kharbranth, a broken man wrote incomprehensible words, shuddering. Adonalsium. The urbanites of Scadrial felt the stirring in the air, the sands of Taldain whipped in elusive patterns. The islands of First of the Sun voiced their restlessness and in the dim reaches of the uncharted Cosmere, the forgotten world of Yolen opened its mouth for the first time in eons. Adonalsium. The words reached a broken house on Sel, where a somber woman stood before a gravestone, as she had every year for time beyond counting. The words were worn by time and weather, but the name could still be made out, though only with difficulty. Wilkin. An old name, from another time. At the sound of the wind, she looked up in slight surprise. A thoughtful look crossed her face, briefly, before it settled back into its normal composure. Between that moment and the next, she was gone. -------------------------------------------- In the wake of the wind, a council chamber formed. Nowhere and everywhere at once, it was the meeting place for the gods of the Cosmere - the Shards of Adonalsium. Ten stood there, their faces and forms veiled behind their power. "He has returned, then?" The one who spoke held endless time in its voice - unchanging ages upon ages in glorious stasis. "He has. And he means to restore that which was Shattered." The voice was a riot of color, hues and shades swirling in its sounds. "This cannot be. It would undo so much of our work." The voice was kingly, but firm as iron. "Then it is agreed. He shall not succeed. Adonalsium must remain a memory only, if our works are to have any meaning." This voice crackled with the energy of chaos. One by one, the ten robed figures nodded their agreement, then vanished.

  3. I was about to post the "Just do it" Shia meme... then i realized that I shouldn't encourage people to canibalism. On a serious note, just listen to that teenage fangirl voice in your head and gush about how awesome Scribbler is and... whatever else it tells you to write.

  4. Iconoclast and Slaughterine walked briskly down the street, both dressed in plain vanilla clothes with their heads bowed. They looked for all the world exactly like timid humans, on a vacuous errand for their Epic master or mistress. By now they were several blocks from Slaughterine's house, and hopefully beyond pursuit. Slaughterine scowled. "I'm still annoyed at you for making me wear this drab outfit. Who would inflict such a torture on anyone?" Iconoclast smirked and raised an eyebrow. "These are the clothes you make your servants wear." Her scowl deepened. "I meant on anyone important." He chuckled, and grinned evilly. "Don't worry anyway, around me.... people tend to wear lots of red." She looked confused for a second, until realisation set in, and she grimaced. "You know I've never understood the pleasure some Epics take in killing." He winked. "I take my pleasure in bodies my way, you take yours in yours." "At least my hobbies are fun for both parties. Must you be so creepy all the time?" Iconoclast looked up, a gnawed finger in his bloody mouth. It was his own. "Mmpgh What was that sorry?" Slaughterine looked like she couldn't decide whether to laugh or throw up. She recovered in a few seconds, "Stop that! We are trying to be inconspicuous!" "My dear, I live to be inconspicuous." He said as he ripped off one of his hands with a meaty riiip, and threw it into the garden of a house as they passed it. "You are lucky that no-one saw that!" "No, they are lucky they didn't see that." "Your flippancy is infuriating, I'm not a High Epic you know!" He just smiled at that. It wasn't long before they had reached a suitable house- Slaughterine knew it as abandoned. The evening progressed, both Epics mostly keeping to themselves, except when Iconoclast questioned her for more information about the city. Night approached for the pair, and they separated into different rooms for what Iconoclast knew would be a night of troubles and fear. He dreaded it, but sometimes... sometimes it felt good to see her again. Even in a nightmare. And so he was surprised when Slaughterine walked into his room, and slowly shut the door behind her, a small smile on her lips. Iconoclast raised an eyebrow. "May I.... help you?" "Don't worry about what you, can do for me, Mr Clast. Ask me what I can do for you...." With that, she slowly walked towards him. Her hips swayed seductively, and her void grew husky. Iconoclast smiled, walking to meet her. She placed a hand tenderly on his chest, leaning in close. A smile still on his face, he gripped her wrist in an iron grasp, causing her to gasp in surprise. "Do you think," He began, still smiling. "That anything you could do tonight will make me less likely to kill you?" "I-I-uh, I just thought that-" "That you would seduce me? That you would get in my good graces, manipulate me, make yourself more valuable somehow?" "I... I just wanted to-" His smile vanished. "Wanted to what?" Slaughterine shrank backwards, quivering with fear. "N-nothing.... I wanted nothing." The fake smile returned. "Excellent. Now be a dear, and get out." He shoved her backwards, causing her to stumble. Eyes wide with fear at the loathing and anger in his voice, Slaughterine didn't look back as she fled, closing the door behind her. Iconoclast grimaced. Internal voices warred within. Why not sleep with her? He thought. Don't I deserve it? I've done such good work these past few days. But another voice, another feeling, stopped him. A feeling he should have abandoned long ago, a feeling he rarely remembered or felt. A longing for a love lost, a woman he could never see again. Except in nightmares.

  6. Okay. It's about time I get around to closing this game up. First, my final thoughts. For the most part, I think the game worked well. There are just a couple of things I'd tweak for a rerun. The Apothecary Bloodless were too cheap and too available. Running it again, I'd probably increase the prices for the Bloodless and the Gram considerably. Like, the Bloodless would be about 10 talents and the gram closer to 15 or 20. That would make the Skindancer attack more effective since there wouldn't be so many Skindancer-protections around. The Lodgings I think there might need to be one more lodging location, just to spread the prices out a little more. I also think the Mews should have a +2 insanity bonus, to make it so if you lodge there, you will be risking insanity, regardless of if you've gone into an arcane field or not. I didn't like how 80% of the players lodged at the Mews and most of them were at no risk of insanity. I'd want to make such cheap lodging more of a risk for players, since risk/reward is very much a theme for this game (or it should've been anyway). Besides the Mews, though, I thought the other locations worked great. DC stayed in Anker's most of the time he was sane, and he had a number of actions that got cancelled due to his lodging at Anker's. The Golden Pony didn't really see much action, but the Horse and Four. Stink would've been expelled ages earlier if he hadn't been staying at the Horse and Four as much as he had been. There were a number of turns where he had 1-2 votes on him, and they got cancelled out due to the -1DP, so he didn't go On the Horns. He lucked out a lot. Wonko could've avoided being expelled as well, if he'd been lodging at the Horse and Four. And actually, that might be another thing I would change. Switch the bonuses of the Golden Pony and the Horse and Four. With how easy it was to go on the Horns and how potentially harmful that could be, making it slightly cheaper to avoid that might not be a bad thing. And then it would make the protection more expensive, which works. I'd probably up the chances to 50% rather than 25% though. To make it more beneficial with that higher cost. Fae Lore This was way OP. I'm not sure how I'd change it, but it definitely needs to be changed. I'm thinking maybe making it so actions where you're just performing an action and not trying to get information don't bring back info. You just know if you did it or not and who you targeted, but not if it was successful. Only the information-gathering ones, where you target a specific person to learn something about them (like School Records) would have a more specific result. That would make it so Fae Lore can still block--perhaps even block all actions--but the Archivist won't automatically know who is or isn't a Skindancer if they know someone used an action. Other than those little bits, I think most of the game went pretty well. I wish more players had become Masters, or that Hael had been able to destroy R/L, but all-in-all, I think it was a good game. With these adjustments, I think it would help a lot (particularly the Bloodless/protection one). And that wraps up LG18. Thanks everyone for playing! The Skindancers played a great game, and so did the Students. I loved the Naming actions that Wonko and Lopen did there at the end. I wish that Wonko had figured out that he could target Students in the University with Wind while he was expelled but I'm quite content with the way the events there at the end played out. Also, thank you to everyone for being so forgiving to the mistakes made (I'm looking at you, Burnt. ). This was a massive game, and we tried our best, but sometimes, we messed up. Which brings me to my fellow co-GMs. I cannot thank Orlok and Aonar enough for helping me run this. I wouldn't have been able to do this without you two, especially not there at the end. So thank you both a hundred times over (and more). As always, if you have any game ideas, feel free to post them in the Art of Game Creation thread to get feedback on them. If you'd like to try your hand at GMing, either post in the General Rules thread or PM me, Alv, Meta, or Gamma, and we'll get you added to the list and to the relevant GM PM group. You can also see if you can co-GM a game with someone else, to get experience without running a game all by yourself. Whatever works for you. Thanks again for playing and hope to see you back on Temerant when Elbereth reruns this game sometime in the next year (probably).

  7. Violet eyes surveyed the sky, a curiosity lurking just below the boredom. His pet lumbered up the hill behind him, chests weighed upon it's back. The dark-haired man sighed at last. "Barely a breeze," he pronounced at last. "If there were any wind spren, they wouldn't be riding on that." A shame; the man was quite curious what a spren would look like away from home. The chull came to rest beside him. It was an odd creature, so far from home. It didn't seem to like the colourful flowers, anymore than Valan Quivar, Highprince of Jah Keved, liked the heat. It reminded him of the Reishi Isles, but without the libertine spirits that had made them so appealing. Regardless, he reached into the basket tied to the beasts back, and pulled out a bottle. He uncorked it, paused a second to pour some of the orange spirits onto the ground. At least this world got one thing right, he thought. Most of the cosmere was so dry, so dreary and dull and boring. These colours - from what he had seen, this entire region- was every bit as colorful as proper, Rosharan wine. Respects paid, the wandering prince pressed the bottle to his lips, and took a swig until it was drained, right down to the very - last - drop. He couldn't quite ignore the chull's expression - was that curiosity in it's dull eyes? Unlikely; chull had never struck him as a particularly intelligent species. Still, it was dutiful, quiet and didn't complain. Those were traits that were valuable regardless of age, gender or species, and one's the man particularly admired. "Nalthis," he said again. "That was where the old Endowment came from. I heard she ran away. I heard she was some would-be assassin with a bow and arrow." The chull clicked with, the man assumed, agreement. "Yes, I'm also sure she was quite pretty. And now her bones are lying to rot somewhere in the Cosmere. Why don't we see if we can do better?" ((Quick post to establish a character at least... no voting though, sicne... I got nothing to go off of)

  8. A woman with coppery skin and part of her hair in a pair of braids played a few notes on her flute. She considered a moment, then played a few more. "Hmm," she said, lost in thought. "What to play..." Suddenly, she snapped her head up, scanning the crowd. "You!" she said, pointing at a figure sitting in the shadows. "Your name is Unnamed Character 6," she said, lowering the flute she held in her gloved hand. "That name is uninspired. Unacceptable!" She slammed her hand down on the table to accentuate her declaration. "You will change it to something more respectable," she continued, her face turning upward in a broad grin. "Or die!" With a flick of her wrist, she threw a dagger that had been hidden in the sleeve of her ungloved hand into the air, then caught it. She continued juggling the dagger with one hand as she raised the flute to her lips with her other hand and began to play a haunting melody.

  9. See my post the other day Anyway, to continue my RP... The thing hadn't gone away in months. It was almost always there, and almost always doing something irritating. It seemed to be studying him for some reason, though he had no idea why. Conversation with the thing was difficult, it struggled to use the language properly and had its own peculiar mannerisms that infiltrated its talking fully. Annoying. Right now it was talking to itself under its breath, so he couldn't hear it, though it looked to be examining the make up and design of the bag one of his companions was wearing. The bag was made for long distance treks and journeys, which this would be (if not the longest anyone had ever done), especially once they hit the mountainous regions in Jah Keved. For now, however, they were still in Alethkar, moving slowly but surely towards the border. Kelen had done his research beforehand, and this was supposed to be one of the parts of the border that wasn't embroiled in constant fighting or warfare. One would think the two Vorin nations would get along better and have less skirmishes, though it seemed that the fighting wouldn't end any time soon. Once they crossed into Jah Keved, the trip would become a lot more dangerous. They would be foreigners, and foreigners never seemed to be treated nicely, no matter where one was. This was in addition to the Highstorm that Kelen had forecast to occur just after they crossed the border. They would have to find a small lait and hole up there while the storm passed. It would set them back a few hours, and Kelen didn't like that, but it couldn't be avoided. "Kelen?" The thing said, the pitch shifting wildly even throughout the single word. Kelen ignored the thing. "Kelen!" it repeated, the volume shifting upwards until it was close to shouting. Kelen continued to ignore it. "KELEN!" it yelled, coming up close to him. "What?!" Kelen replied, thoroughly irritated. "You have why so many.. dead things you with?" "What do you mean by that?" "Animal that there, it has lots of dead things it on." "Oh, the pack animal. That's food." "Food?" "We consume it. We need it to stay alive. Haven't you been paying attention?" "I paid attention, yes." "You would have worked that out by now." "Oh." The thing moved off again, silent now. It seemed... embarrassed? Kelen didn't really know how to put a name on it. He disregarded the thing and left it to its moping. He could deal with it later. For now, he had to worry about the border crossing, less than a whole day from now.

  11. So, thoughts on MR13, finally. Companions. This... well. Confirmed good roles are troublesome. This game was partly created from an effort to balance publicly known, confirmed good roles. This... kind of worked? I'd actually originally meant to put in protection, as Joe mentioned, but if I did that I think I wouldn't allow the Companions any PMs at all. That'd be the biggest change I'd make in a rerun of this game. The reason the Companions got so out of hand, and the reason why the eliminators chose to kill them immediately even though they didn't count towards the win con, was the PM coordination they could do. Now, Rae was killed immediately, so we didn't get to see much of her take on Companionship. However, Mark was around for a while, and... well, as you'll see if you read the spec doc, he got a bit dictator-like near the end. And Mayor games are no fun. On the other hand, it's not entirely his fault. That was what he felt he was supposed to do, and no one called him on it. Guys. The point of the game is to have fun. That's literally the only reason we do these things. If you're not having fun, the game's not worth playing. So if you were uncomfortable about doing what Mark told you to do? That's fine! Don't do it! Just because he's confirmed good doesn't mean he will always do exactly the right thing and make the right calls. As a corollary to that. A few of you suggested you'd be perfectly willing to follow whatever the Companions voted. Now. Why is that? Why are their opinions any more important than your own? Yes, the Companions are confirmed good. So are you. Your judgement is just as important, if not more important, than the Companions'. Confirmed good does not mean confirmed right. And final point on that topic: So, Mark trusted Burnt and Luckat. Therefore, even though he gave absolutely no reasoning for that nor indication that he had solid reasoning, you trusted them. And then, even though Burnt gave absolutely no reasoning for trusting Joe (nor indication that she had trusted Joe except in the fact that he had her information), you trusted him. In most cases, you trusted him quite a lot. Which... You trusted someone that the person who the confirmed good had trusted, had trusted. Which is a bit of a stretch, no? Confirmed good does not mean confirmed right. Okay, on to other things. If I were to rerun this, I'd take out Feruchemy. Maybe completely, maybe just one role per person. I'm not sure. But the reasoning for this is that it's just too complicated, and the main idea behind this game is the Companions. Not the environmental phenomena, not the Feruchemy. And those things really distracted from the main point, I think. In addition to that, the Feruchemy made this ridiculously difficult to balance. Speaking of balance. This was difficult for obvious reasons, partly because I wasn't sure how the Feruchemy would be handled, partly because I didn't know how people would react to the Companions. And I didn't do a great job, obviously, or we wouldn't have had a perfect sweep from the eliminators. I think I gave the eliminator team a bit too much in the way of strategy-thinking, and unlimited access to pewter. Together, those two things were just too much, particularly since almost no one used bronze to counter that pewter. If I reran this, I'm not sure whether I would have more Companions or not. I considered having four for a while, and in this setup that would have been a problem, probably. Without them being able to PM at all, it might not. I'm not sure. But overall, the balance was just too complicated to be able to do effectively, I think. Particularly for my first game. Won't be doing that again. All that said, excellent job to all the players! You all did very well, particularly the eliminator team. Clean sweeps are rare enough, and you managed to do it in a game with publicly confirmed safe roles! Nicely done. Shoutout also goes to Twei, for being an awesome co-GM and rolling up all the results for me so I didn't have to deal with that, and doing writeups when I couldn't. The writeups were particularly enjoyable for me (mostly... that chicken one was a bit disturbing), although I do regret that I decided to actually write them before posting instead of just posting the results so you could start discussing right at turnover. As a storyteller, I wanted to keep the surprise there, but it does disadvantage you. That's something I learned from the game. I'm sad that there wasn't ever a Landslide. Sometime I'll have to make another game that includes that mechanic, because it would be really fun to see play out. Ah well. In conclusion, I loved GMing this game (particularly the writeups), I hope you all enjoyed playing, and I'll see you in the next one! And of course... Tindomë stumbled out of the bushes where she'd hidden as the traitors had emerged from the mountain. They were gone now, long gone, but their faces were still there in her mind. Jonly, Dyfwyl, Kholwa. And then last, Talion, proudest and most terrible of them all. Each godlike, radiating power. She shivered at the thought of Talion's face, seeming utterly alien, but moved slowly to the cave entrance. She was alone, with barely enough food for a couple of days. She couldn't go back, now, anyway, even if she could make it that far in her weakened condition. They'd kill her if they found out she was still alive. So she entered the mouth of the mountain, hoping for something, anything, to get her away from here. She eventually came to the cavern and the pool. It wasn't very full, she saw. But perhaps... perhaps it had enough power. She didn't want much. Just enough to get away. She knelt carefully at the edge of the pool, reaching her hands into the stuff. Then she concentrated, ignoring the thought of Talion and his companions, ignoring everything but one thought. Away. With a yelp, she overbalanced and fell into the pool. She sank into it slowly, away, away, away, and then... something happened. She felt it. And then she was lying on cold, hard ground, somewhere else. When she finally managed to look up, she froze in wonder. She was on another world. To be continued...

  12. Hey All! So, good news, my trip to Oahu was fantastic, and I am back and ready to write again, AND my Dad's liver transplant was successful, so that's another monkey off my back. I'll still be busy getting ready for work in June, and doing some stuff for my parents, but I am definitely feeling like I am in a better head space for writing. Also, I did really well on my final paper, and will, in fact, be able to graduate, so thanks for giving me the time off I needed to deal with all that. I skimmed the posts, and didn't see any red flags for Comatose. I start wading through my PMs either later tonight, or tomorrow (I only got a few hours of sleep on the flight back because of crying babies, so I might not last long enough to get everything done). Though not regarding his "Property Changing" power, or whatever it is, I thought I expressed some concern when you first introduced him in Corvallis about the level of distraction and disruption he could cause. Corvallis has a decent population, but it's still Reckoners era, and Vanilla labour is kind of the key to utilizing Cornucopia's supply powers to their fullest extent, while also attracting useful epics to the city. Chasmfiend's wanton killing of a bunch of Vanillas probably won't go over to well, and if he keeps it up, Rainmaker's going to be expelling him from the city or trying to kill him as soon as she finds out. As is, he's already in trouble. Another issue is with the Vanilla's response. Corvallis is pretty organized, and while I haven't worked out specifics, the Vanillas course of action upon learning their master has died is not "pledge fealty to the first powerful epic you meet." it's, report to the government to be reassigned. The basic problem I'm seeing is that Corvallis is a place of tight control and strict world order, and Chasmfiend seems set on disrupting that. Others who have done that are Iconoclast (who is in hiding), Insight (also in hiding), Phoenix (killed and is now in hiding post resurrection), Converter (Killed and now resurrected outside the bubble), and Gunsmoke (trapped in air vortex above the city). Since Chasmfiend is not in hiding, unless he starts being more discreet, he is going to be in trouble, and that sort of trouble isn't going to help get him integrated into the plot of the RP. It's more likely to put him in a position where he doesn't have many options for story participation. I guess it comes down to what you intend for the character. If you want to have him act out, be put in his place by Rainmaker, and then behave, this will work (though the Vanillas' responses should still be changed), as long as that what you are expecting. If you want a fight scene with Rainmaker and other Corvallis loyals, this is what you will get too, but once that is done your character won't have much left to do (if he survives). If you want to integrate Chasmfiend into the RP, it might be good to dial back his recklessness a little bit. He sought out Corvallis for protection, so he's obviously just as driven by fear as other epics, and yet we are not seeing this in his conduct. If I was him, intent on throwing myself at Rainmaker's mercy in order to receive her protection, then I would be doing everything I could to follow the rules and get into Rainmaker's good graces. I would not be wantonly causing more chaos in the middle of an obvious crisis. Next steps: What is your plan for Chasmfiend? We should probably plan out where this is going if things are going to continue to get out of hand. Hope that helps! I blame any shortness on my lack of sleep, so apologies if that cam across as rude.

  15. You're right. I gave the Blade, and my reason for doing so is because you made some comments during the day turn last time that really didn't sit well with me. I'll get to those in a bit here. I never said I knew Stink was the thief. I said he was the only one who knew for certain that I had an Emotion Bracelet, that I couldn't trust wasn't the thief. There's a big difference between the two. One requires certainty which I did not have. The other was evidence that was indicated that he was the thief. I didn't tell El that I had a Bracelet. She knew I had another Tier 2 item, but there's no way she could've known if it was an Alerter or a Bracelet, and I really didn't think a thief would take the chance of attempting to rob someone who could well have an Alerter and not the item they're trying to take. That seemed just a little foolhardy. I'm sorry. I had my first ever panic attack on Thursday afternoon and I learned that the after-effects stick around for an extra day. I was also dealing with the causes of said panic attack. Yes, I was more active the previous night. The previous night was also 24 hours longer, and while I had a bit of real life stuff going on, it wasn't to the degree of what's happened the last 48 hours. And I'm not apologizing for putting real life ahead of the game and not planning with you last night. I was barely even on the site during the night or the last half of the day. It wasn't because you were asking about items. It was because I wasn't sure of your aligment, but I'd just told you exactly what I had. The only other people who knew that were people I knew weren't the thief due to having other roles or essentially proving that they were highly unlikely to be neutral. You didn't have that guarantee. And that night, my bracelet got stolen. Now. Why didn't I pass the Blade to Nyali? This post, coupled with her explanation of how she plays when evil. She likes to make it logically impractical for her to be considered evil. The fact that she replied to Kyne immediately after he posts saying that he's not really paying attention to the game, and he doesn't know who to suspect or anything like that (and basically says that he's not going to pay further attention because it's too far in) seemed like a way to further showcase how useful she's been to everyone. Had it been someone else saying it, it wouldn't have triggered anything. But coming from her? Not so much. Furthermore, there were her comments about Burnt. Burnt wasn't cleared. Burnt had made actions that showed that the person who made those actions was highly likely to be cleared, but those actions had not yet been connected with Burnt herself until later. After she was rerolled. So Nyali seemed to be making such a big deal about Maill potentially changing the alignment of someone right when we cleared them. He didn't. He potentially changed the alignment when we could've mostly cleared them. And what was he supposed to do there? Kill her permanently? That's hardly fair for her. Keep her as a GM-confirmed Noble and watch a LG4 happen as everyone rallied around her and she controlled the rest of the game since had a Grandbow and could exact "justice" on anyone who didn't want to follow along with a dictator? I think not. He had to reroll her and he had to make it an even chance for her to be either alignment. But you're the only one who'd been insistent that she must be Noble still. Why? I started wondering if maybe it was because she trusted you and you had such a good in now for information. Lastly, your "logic" about who must've performed the kill on Seonid. You missed two people. Yourself and Burnt. Either of you could've also done it. No one pain knifed you. No one used an EB on you. You have 3 action periods and you could've used one of them for the kill. Just like me, Macen, and El. Now, why didn't I say any of this during the day? I didn't even see the latter half of the day posts until I got home that night after the rollover. I'd been with a couple friends and they were talking me through the last bits of the panic attack I'd had. I also happened to be out of internet range, and I honestly didn't care about the game at that point in time. I didn't trust you, and I was worried that if I gave you the Blade and you were a GB, you'd be free and clear to go on the spree you'd held back from earlier while you were gaining our trust. I couldn't use my Spanreed to start a new PM with Mark and Twei, because I'd been under the impression that if I used my T1A action to pass the Blade, it could be stolen--something that I'd mentioned the previous night. And since I was either at work or asleep for most of the night turn, I didn't have the time or the inclination to keep up with multiple PMs. I was pretty sure you or Burnt was a Ghostblood, and while I was obviously wrong about you due to your being attacked, I'm still not inclined to think I was wrong about Burnt. She probably is. So why did I pass the Blade to the person I passed it to? The only two people who could take it were people I wasn't sure could be trusted with it. That meant someone outside of the trust group. Out of those people, Zas struck me as the one most likely to be Noble, due to something El called my attention to in the very early stages of the game (this was actually the reason she trusted Zas the most). So I passed it to him, and said what I did in the PM to see how you and/or Burnt would react. If either of you were a GB, you'd know that you didn't use a Soulcaster on me, and I was pretty sure your reaction would be telling in that regard. Unfortunately, I didn't count on making a mistake with the order of actions, so the reactions didn't actually tell me anything (though Burnt's quick jump to immediately distrusting Zas was interesting. Even if the GB's had actually redirected me, why in the world would they actually have me give the Blade to one of their own when they'd know that I would know who the Blade went to? That makes no sense). I was going to vote for you Nyali, but knowing that you were the one attacked removes that paranoia about you. Instead, I'm voting Burnt.

He been born and raised at the top of a chasm (the LEFT side of it ), which required caution at all times, and then of course being a trapper on the Father himself made all the vigilance he'd exercised as a youth look like, well, child's play. Patji had no sufferance of fools. and little enough sufferance of those who weren't fools. That being said, it was imperative to learn about these strange surroundings if he had any hope of surviving in them. It would help if he knew how he had gotten there. One moment he had been washing in that odd pool on Patji, and then... here. Wherever here was. He wished his aviar, Smeagolri, had been taken with him, if nothing else than for a familiar face, but oh well... My first attempt at RP! Yay!

  22. A friend and I were discussing Wayne and Steris' relationship, and we decided that there's probably a good setting for a series of short stories/vignettes about them as they increasingly become friends (of a sort). Steris almost certainly has a list of possible things Wayne might do to irritate her, as well as ways of dealing with them. Wayne knows there's a list because it's Steris. So the game would be: "Can Wayne do something to Steris that isn't on her list." Wayne wouldn't look at the list because "it would right take the fun out of it," and Steris would use the game as an opportunity to contain Wayne's chaos. I suspect Wayne has spent some time in the Assembly, pretending to be a member, and having fun tying people up in silly votes and time-consuming procedural motions. I was enjoying the image of him attempting this on Steris, who would utterly crush him procedurally. Anybody else have ideas for ways Wayne could mess with Steris? I assume she has well-fleshed out ideas for what to do if Wayne infiltrates any of her social gatherings or hobbies, but there's room for Wayne to work, even there.

  23. "Waifs and Strays" by Robinski Alpha read by krystalynn03 Waifs and Strays is an epic length novel penned by Robinski. The only bits of his writing I'd read before came from "Hold the Bridge," so I knew a little bit about his voice and his preferred style of fantasy before beginning, although it was still a rough draft. Some places of W&S read more polished than others, but overall, has a good story in it. First, let me say that I've never done an alpha review before, so having Robinski kindly alpha reading "Roamwald" at the same time helped me learn to be a better alpha reader as I went. Robinski demonstrates an ability in W&S that I envy. He constructs a plot thick with many different characters following their own plots at the same time weaving them all back together. I like to read that kind of pacing in books, but I find it very, very difficult to pull off as an author. W&S does a good job at making a lot of intricate pieces are fall into place for the whole. The setting of Lufmatho has believable politics, religion, and a decent, if not completely fleshed out, magic system, that ties back to both of the former. The protagonists of W&S evade the cliche of characters all having to come from a particular age group to be interesting. My favorite protag was Benam, an aging 'has been' hero who is haunted by his reputation on one hand while seeming to under perform his potential as a dock supervisor on the other. The arrival of the enemy jolts him from a boring middle life into one of meaning again, although not without personal cost. Covelle, I think, is supposed to be the character that the majority of readers take to. He's an aristocrat gone rogue, but he never read quite right for me. He tries to change as a character and grow up as the novel progresses, but I think this is something that needs to be refined in revisions for him to have any texture. There are two female protagonists, but most of what I think about them might be too spoiler-y, so I'll not say anything here. There are parts of the book that need cutting and restructuring to change the pacing, but that's a normal fix. Who was who said that any first draft of a novel is really the author telling himself the story? I attribute most of the pacing problems currently in W&S to that and hope to see a tighter version in the future. The story, long as it is, is still pretty solid. While W&S sometimes had me question the characters, I never once questioned the overall plot logic. Robinski runs a very tight ship on the front. (See what I did there, R?) There are several setting changes that stick out in my mind as vivid and well done: the rocky haven, the bilge of a ship, the river outside the mansion at twilight, the overgrown country cottage garden... W&S did yank on my emotional chains a few times, giving me surprises, anger, and regret, which are all good in turn. Again, I can't really expound on that for sake of spoilers. Robinski has far more knowledge about how the military and ships work, and every time he brought those elements into the story, the setting became very real. W&S is a strong first run of a solid fantasy plot. I would like to see it's pacing restructured through cutting and revision, some of the main characters brought into more vivid focus, and a few of the more 'stock fantasy' settings or situations revised to be 'one off' to keep things a little fresher for readers who've read too many fantasy books in their life. I hope you keep revising W&S and share with me and/or beta thread in the future soon, Robinski! I'm still attached to Benam!

If we follow Nyali and lynch Wilson, is that game over? Is this the critical point? I dunno, this ain't QFPolitics where I was like a super-pro (for me). I just shoot people. And think it's time that all info goes to the public. I mean, the GB's probably know it by now, as they probably have a guy that can see items (if they haven't already died, sorry about me memory).

  27. The fact that I was attacked and not Twei supports Wilson being Ghostblood. She knew I hadn't transferred the only Painrial we had access to the prior night for sure, and probably thought that I didn't move it last night either since I didn't talk about it in the group PM with her. Also, she kept insisting that she "knew" Stink had to be a thief and we shouldn't trust him even though I had protected him successfully from a Ghostblood attack. She also argued that it could have been a WGG, especially since we were sure for a while DC was Ghostblood and DC knew I could and would defend Stink that turn. To be fair though, Wilson did too, but her insistence that Stink was a thief makes me think that if Wilson is Ghostblood, Stink is legit. I had been sure earlier that she was Ghostblood, but I was also sure she and DC wouldn't both be Ghostblood, so when I realized DC blatantly lied to me repeatedly in ways that helped the Ghostbloods, I changed to fully trusting Wilson. That's why I gave her that Shardblade and why I was so upset to find out that DC was just trolling me. Wilson also stopped trying to plan with us last night, which makes sense since she was planning to ignore the plan anyway. The only part we had told her was that she should give me her Shardblade so the Ghostblood Soulcasters couldn't redirect it. (Edit: she did give an out of game reason for lower activity, but the same had been true earlier and she still managed to do plenty of planning then) EDIT: Anyone know if Wilson's Shardplate has regenerated yet from the attack a while back? I know this won't kill her, but we need to start attacking sometime... Taking three lynches to kill someone is really a lot. EDIT2: Oh, and here's how I currently feel about everyone: Definitely Noble Nyali Twei Mark Extremely Likely Noble Burnt Stink Very Likely Noble Zas Likely Noble Kynedath Macen Unsure Alvron Sheep Extremely Likely Ghostblood Wilson (Did I miss anyone?)

Yeah, having some experience with that from Astoria, I can say that just not crushing any singular enemy that shows up can sometimes actually take more effort to justify than letting them get away and human millitias don't rank very highly on the threat scale. Yeah, that's one of the parts we need to step up as well. I mean, at least Lucentia destroyed one building in the last post but that isn't that much in the grand scale of things.

  33. Kelen rubbed his forehead and looks over the list in front of him once more. On it was shown all the supplies they'd need for the journey to the Horneater Peaks. The journey itself wouldn't be particularly dangerous - apart from the crossing from Alethkar into Jah Keved, though Kelen hoped to avoid any dangerous border skirmishes - however it would need lots of equipment, from tents all the way to writing equipment. Kelen intended to log his journey (though not let anyone know about it of course, heresy claims were so annoying to deal with) up to the pool as fully as he could. He'd be the first Alethi, as far as he knew, to use the power that lay up there, so it would be a monumentous journey. On the back of the paper was a continuation of the list that cut off after a few marks down the page, making way for a list of all the provisions they'd need. A large amount of water, for sure, though they intended to stop and collect some from rivers periodically, replenishing their supplies that would, of course, run low very quickly. The list for food was incredibly long, though Kelen supposed that on an expedition such as this all that food would be necessary. The effort was worth it however, getting to the pool would be the greatest achievement of Kelen's life, and even then, would only be the beginning of his real trip. Getting to the base of the peaks would take a few days at least, and then another few days to scale the intended peak. Kelen found it ironic that they would take so long travelling a great distance across the land, and then spend just as long climbing upwards but a fraction of that distance. T'was the nature of vertical distances he supposed, that they should take so much longer to cross than normal lengths. It made sense in a way, fighting against gravity would certainly be a challenge. It was a shame he wasn't a Windrunner; being able to lash everything upwards would reduce the journey time ridiculously. Of course, if he was to be any Knight Radiant, the best for his purposes would be an Elsecaller. But for now, he'd have to make do with this lake, the lake from which gods emerged, according to a rumour he'd heard in the warcamps, back when he'd cared about Highprince politics. He had more important things on his mind now, certainly since the revelations he'd had in recent months. Revelations that had turned his world upside down. Or rather, expanded it. He looked up and brushed his hand through his smooth hair, its length reaching just to his shoulders. A little longer than normal Alethi stock, but few mentioned anything to him about it. Probably because of how little time he spent around them. The hair was mostly blond but with a streak of red. The blond was matched in brightness only by his eyes, a light grey. He was a fairly high ranking lighteyes, though he cared little for that anymore. His plans would still be carried out in his absence, yes, but he was now mostly indifferent to whether they succeeded or failed. This trip was more important than all of them put together. His eyes scanned the room, the grey orbs examining all the people around him, most working on loading supplies up. Everything had been bought as necessary; the paper he held now was merely a check that everything had been purchased and had arrived at the storehouse. It all had. Most of the people here wouldn't be attending, only a few of his closest companions would, those to whom the secrets of the stars had also been revealed. This was to be a very important trip indeed. Anyone care to join me on my expedition to Honor's (presumably) shardpool?

I like them bright and colourful with expressive characters, even if the action sequences end up simplified because no budget. They're only small A6 pieces of card, and I doubt people would pay more than $5 for one. Postage from my country, envelopes, and art supplies would eat up all of that, so I dunno, maybe it's better to hold onto it. I could give them to Brandon when he visits my country next year. I did actually do a Shallan and Jasnah scene! I don't have a good mental image of Sebarial and Palona, so I don't think I could create a character design that I think would do them justice. I still haven't got my mind around Sadeas and Elhokar yet, so I only feel confident about drawing them in their Shardplate. I can't remember if Elhokar even wears a crown or uniform when he hangs out at his house. Art time! click picture to open up to full res trust me, it's better that way Scenes from SA: The Animated Series. This time it's WoK Edition. "The Lesson" Chapter 36, "The Lesson", WoK I thought this was one of the defining moments in the Shallan-Jasnah relationship, and defining moments of characterisation, where you're just left with your mouth open going "did she just?!!". But no matter what I think of Jasnah, I think she's a fun character to draw. The background here was pretty low energy because it was late at night and I didn't feel like working at it. Process pic: "Man of Extremes" Chapter 64, "A Man of Extremes", WoK It's not the most action-packed scenes from WoK, but even thought it was pretty low-key, I thought it was dramatic and touching and made me feel sad feelings, so I remembered it. Dalinar said something that was pretty foot-in-mouth and when I re-read the scene, I laughed pretty hard at it. Hence the facial expressions that are something in between and . Yes, I am aware that in that scene Dalinar is wearing a winter trenchcoat version of his uniform instead of a cape, but I don't feel like changing character costume designs because I am lazy. It's the same reason why your favourite cartoon characters always wear the same thing. When you draw something over and over, you get good at it, and if you were to switch to something else, it would take weeks of drawing badly to get to a level of being good. And I do end up drawing it over and over, as part of the sketching process. Process pic: Vintage SA posters! If SA had a silent film or theatrical playbill or was published as an antique novel, I imagine it would be something like this. "Kaladin" "Adolin" "Shallan" Now to the traditional format! COSPLAY TIME "Foam sword" Yeah, it's really ugly, but most convention centres don't allow stuff that looks dangerous. "Painted sword" Wine bottle for size comparison because I don't have a yardstick or metrestick and I couldn't find anything else that everyone would be able to recognise. It's around 4ft long because this has got to fit in a car. "More foam crafting" Did you know that if you heated up foam with a hairdryer on high, you could melt it enough to bend it and make it keep its shape? "Inside view" It's a mess, but the cool thing about cosplay is that no cares about being practical like those historical re-enactor LARPer folks where every detail has to be perfect, inside and out. The inside of this is unpainted foam and velcro. OBLIGATORY SILLY STUFF! Modern AU Kaladin and Adolin shenanigans. "Horsepower" In a modern AU, Adolin is still a spoiled princeling who rides a white horse. In a modern AU, Kaladin is an adrenaline junkie who is smug about the fact that Adolin's fancy white horse can't compete with his 50+ horsepower engine. And when he jumps mud ramps at the local motocross track, it's as close as it gets to flying. In a modern AU, speed limits are for highspren. How big is Sureblood anyway? I drew him somewhere around 19 hands high. Good thing that Shardbearers are extra nimble, otherwise they would never able to get up in the saddle without a stepladder. And Kaladin rides dirt bikes because they have tall seats compared to street bikes and he has long legs. They can also take a beating and still work, and he likes things that have dents, as long as it's fixable. They're also made for off-roading, and you can hide in the woods when the cops come after you for not having lights or turn signals when you're on the street.

  40. From the quote you provided, it seems more like forging (Like Feruchemy) depends more on what the person has to offer than what the magic system has to offer. The quote states that to get something out of Forgery, you have to put an equal(ish) amount in. Also, we have never seen Hoid using more than one magic system at one time. So, there is always the possibility that he is just putting something he already has (Yolish Lightweaving) to gain something else. Also, we are dealing with the possibility that Hoid is a full lerasium mistborn here. That is a lot of investiture to work with. Personally, these things make a lot of sense. The main problems are how Hoid gained awareness of Cosmere events in the first place, and how he gained world hopping abilities. If he is Yolish, which I am pretty sure is fact now, how did he get to Elantris? How has he lived so long? So on and so forth. I think a lot of thought was put into this idea. Some things are definitely off, but that has already been said. Personally, I love the idea that Hoid wants to become the Shard of Wit. It just seems so... fitting.

  41. Right now, as far as I have found, we know that there are several world-hoppers. So I was wondering how they get around. I have not found anywhere on the forums where this topic is discussed, so I decided it would be best if I made one. As I see it, there are about four ways that World-Hoppers could be getting around. The first would be some manner of FTL. I have seen this theory put out there, however I have yet to see any world with a way of making that happen. Also, Hoid’s travel seems to be instantaneous. The second would be some sort of world-gate. This theory implies that each world has a way of getting to it, from every other world. I do not know how likely this is. In WoR there are Oathgates, which allow anyone on Roshar to get to Urithiru. I see no reason why these could not reach across solar systems, if powered by enough Stormlight. However, how one would even find the planets to put them on is beyond me. And the third theory that I have is that the teleportation is connected to shards. On every world that there is a shard, there is a means of getting there. Maybe the shards have enough power to move people? Can you hijack a shards power enough to do this? This theory has more questions then answers. My final theory is that it is all wrapped around Hoid. This means we are back to square one. Hoid is still doing stuff we have no idea how he is doing, and other people are just riding his coattails. I would love to hear any theories I have missed, as well as any ideas on the theories I have put forth. This is my first topic, so feel free to correct my mistakes, and shatter my fragile ego.

Like with the Shardbows - the spren can either be the bow or the arrow, but not both. But Syl can be a snowboard or surfboard perfectly fine, and if Kaladin can lash himself to a surfboard, he would be a pretty crazy awesome surfer. Brandon says that Alethi are partially based on Hawaiians and Polynesians, so maybe Kaladin can surf like one. Shardsurfboard vs Jetski, who wins. I want to take this time to share something really stupid with you guys. This belongs in the "Silly stuff" pile. Gorgeous digitally painted portraits are one thing, but there is nothing that can quite beat stylised cartoons for quickly and effectively expressing my interpretation of a character and their personality. You know you did it right if you can look at a picture and see story or dialogue happening, without any words being written in it. CLICK PICTURE TO OPEN UP IMAGE TO ITS FULL AND GLORIOUS GLORY "Let's draw Shallan" "Let's draw Kaladin" "Let's draw Adolin" The things Shallan draws are slightly sparklier and more exaggerated than real life, while still having touches of realism and truth. The things Kaladin draws reflect his honest feelings. Shallan is cute and goofy, Adolin getting smacked down now and then would be deserved and pretty hilarious, and in his mind, Kaladin is still a slave. Adolin can't draw but he tries anyway. It's okay to draw because it's not reading! Fashion magazines are okay because they're just pictures, not books! On the character designs - I want every character to have a unique "look" because otherwise they all look the same when they wear uniforms. An artist has done a good job if other people can pick up who each character is after a quick glance, without having to read the annotations on a piece. In this piece, it's relatively easy to distinguish Shallan from the boys because she is much smaller than both of them, But I always wanted to be able to distinguish Adolin from Kaladin, and not just by their hair colours, as anime often uses in the shows where all the characters look the same and wear school uniforms. For this reason, I draw Adolin with even features, aka "conventionally attractive", and make him more expressive in terms of how his face changes when he talks or responds to people in conversation. He is described as "handsome" in-canon, but I use boyish, charming and cute handsome rather than set-your-ovaries-on-fire hot. Kaladin in canon is apparently rugged and masculine like a pile of rocks, with a chin that can lead armies. I draw him with no lips, no smiling or laughing, and a nose that is slightly too big, but overall his appearance is one that some girls might like, if they are into rocks and eyes so deep and dark and mysterious you will fall into them and wake up ascending into Shardholderdom.

Tau makes some equations nicer, and others more complicated. Its two sides of the same coin, and just comes down to definitions. There are some equations that are made simpler by pi/4, and that's an equally valid concept. I didn't embrace the nickname Pi because I'm some huge fan of the ratio between a circles circumference and diameter. I embraced it for more abstract reasons: It represents a passion for mathematics, for precision. It represents a fascination with the infinite and the recursive.
