  1. This and of course the book is already being tested to serve like ballistic armor plate by several armies around the globe. Field tests showed that a person using "Radiance armor" could sustain continued fire of .50 with almost no damage* (the bullets didn't passed even the preface). It was also reported that operatives experimented odd surges of strenght and velocity of yet unknown origin. The only inconvient that was reported are that in some cases the test subjects began to shine(not radiotive related) further studies are occurring right now.

  2. I already commented on Tor that it was quite foolish of them to reveals this to a fandom of Mistborn assassins. At least they were smart enough to not give the shipping details. I'll polish the spikes and get the Awakened rope. Where should we strike first?

  3. This is the right time to suggest we take a assault team and bust in Tor Hq to free this book? It's is clear that the book are miss handled by the Tor folk. For Almighty sake they put a freaking Dinossaur at it side, the poor thing must be terrified. It would be only right release it from captivity and bring it here to 17th Shard are we could take better care of it =)

  4. Ask and ye shall receive.I tried to vary the shapes of the gemstones a bit. I had troubles deciding on the stone to use for the heliodor and zircon so actually made two alternates for those. Actual smokey quartz (which seems to be the consensus on what smokestone is) has a brownish tint like the one I made above but the skybreaker glyph has a purplish hue so I altered the color of some smokey quarts and made an alternate version of that one.

  5. Dyring Ridge, I thank you for your commission and will gladly accept payment in either atium or Breaths. I hope the result of my hard work is satisfactory to you. And now, without any further ado, I present The Official Documentation of Day 2 Votes (As It Pertains to The Chandrian….*ahem* I mean, the Accused 7) Part 1: The Day 2 Chronicle of Voting, Including the Order of Votes and Information Regarding Deadlocks Peng started it off with a vote for Wes Aspren refused to vote for anyone. Retracted Wes voted for Kukri. Retracted Vron voted for Quillion. Retracted Kukri voted for Wes Barty voted for Wes Wilson voted for no one. Retracted Maxill voted for Quillion. Aspren retracted vote refusal; voted for Shimble Eddy voted for Shimble Vron retracted vote for Quillion; voted for Shimble Wilson retracted vote for Quillion; voted for Shimble Maxill retracted vote for Quillion; voted for Shimble (deadlock between Wes and Shimble – 7 votes each) Aether added himself to the votes for Shimble but didn’t retract previous vote or formally colorize vote to make official. Didn’t count Ridge voted for Wes (broke deadlock) END OF VOTING PERIOD Wes retracted vote for Quillion; voted for no one. Didn’t count Cessie retracted vote for no one; voted for Shimble. Didn’t count Part 2: The Suspicions, Reasonings, and Regrets of the Shimble-Accusers (aka The 7) There is a fault with this title, as it does not pertain to just 7 individuals. As per the orders of the commissioner (one, Mr Dyring Ridge), I am listing everything in regards to all of those who cast a vote for Shimble (including those that weren’t counted). The Accused Stand Here: Hero Aonar Aspren Eddy Vron Wilson Maxill Aether Cessie Hero began the discussion with an impassioned request of our Lord Mistborn: As you can see, Hero suspects Shimble and Kukri. He does not vote at this time. Eddy was drunk. But he wanted the Lord Mistborn to give his “grand resoning” [sic] for accusing Wes. Aspren declined to vocalize suspicions, but said he would prefer not to have someone killed. He voted for no one. Alvron said that “No one has any real proof of anything,” and proceeds to vote for Quillion in the hopes that since Quillion is not the actual player, Lord Ollivier, that no one will die. Cessie gave an impassioned speech as well: Wilson stated that the Lord Mistborn is likely who he says he is, but she would not blindly follow him in his votes, particularly when she thought Wes was being targeted for his lack of Allomancy. She voted for no one. Maxill voted for Quillion even though he would prefer to vote for no one. He wanted a deadlock, but admitted that interference by an emotional allomancer could mess that up. He asked Wilson to follow his example. He also asked Aether for another list and wanted to know if a vote for Quillion actually counted. (To which, Meta responded that it counts toward Lord Ollivier) Aonar wanted the Lord Mistborn’s reasoning for choosing Wes, and said he doesn’t want to kill anyone if he doesn’t have to. He voted for Quillion to get the deadlock and hoped that an emotional Allomancer wouldn’t interfere. Wilson realized the truth or Maxill’s words, retracted her vote for no one, and voted for Quillion. She also requested a list from Aether. Upon posting, she realized she’d been ninja’d by Aonar and retracted her vote, bringing the deadlock back. Hero withheld his vote, wishing for the Lord Mistborn to appear and assuage all the requests for explanation. Alvron stated that he’s not voting with the Lord Mistborn because there’s nothing to go on, quoting the Lord Mistborn’s explanation that Wes was his best guess. He would like proof that killing Wes is a good idea. He also apologized to Quiver for casting the first vote on Lord Ollivier’s proxy, Quillion. He declined to list suspicions because he doesn’t believe in mob rule. He wanted everyone to make up their own mind. Aonar changed his vote to no one to keep the deadlock between Wes and Quillion in place. Hero supported the idea of following the Lord Mistborn’s opinions, but could not rightly follow him when “by his own lips,” the Lord Mistborn “admitted that he does not have any good reason for his judgment.” He then went on to say others had acted suspiciously and had been called out on that suspicious behavior, but he didn’t list any names. However, he said we shouldn’t ignore those observations. He officially withheld his vote and hoped that the Lord Mistborn would reconsider his vote for Wes. Because Hero disliked that the Lord Mistborn disappeared shortly after casting his vote, he requested an extra 12 hours onto the day, extending the time to vote in hopes that the Lord Mistborn would return and “give us better reasoning” or possibly “be swayed by reasoning of the group.” He didn’t wish for the Lord Mistborn to disclose any information better kept private—he simply wanted to know if he had good reasoning, and if so, Hero would “happily vote along with him.” Hero pointed out that two people, independently, have voiced suspicion for Shimble Leice. Wilson created The Master List to help everyone see the progress thus far. SHIMBLE stated that killing him would not be a good idea for our side. Hero found it “noteworthy that multiple people have voiced suspicions of Shimble,” and admitted that he’d suspected him too. He retracted his vote for no one and officially voted for Shimble. He also said that because Shimble just admitted to having an important, he’s all but made it certain the Inquisitor would target him that night if he didn’t die today. (Wilson’s note: I think Hero thought the Inquisitor could only convert with a Spike he had killed someone with, so if we killed a Misting during the day, the Inquisitor couldn’t use that power in a conversion.) Cessie voted not to kill anyone. She stated that by killing people, we make it more likely the Inquisitor will hit a Misting at night, but if we leave people alive, the Inquisitor will be less likely to hit a Misting in a random attack. Aonar was persuaded by Hero and voted for Shimble, who is definitely the “most suspicious.” He didn’t think the deadlock would hold, once the emotional Allomancers appeared, but he wanted to at least vote for someone who had “actually done something suspicious.” Aether created an additional fine list of the votes, complementing Wilson’s list. He disagreed with the idea of a deadlock and didn’t want to help create one, but at the same time, he didn’t want to vote for Wes, so he decided to vote for no one. Aspren retracted his previous vote and voted for Shimble, stating that he would much rather vote for no one. He also stated that if sufficient reason to change his vote came along, he would cave to that reasoning. Hero noted that the Lord Mistborn still had not appeared, despite the additional timeframe. Eddy appeared, still drunk, and said a lot of gibberish, but ultimately caved to the alcohol because he hadn’t heard the Lord Mistborn’s reasonings. He voted for Shimble. Vron changed his vote to Shimble because the Lord Mistborn still had not explained the choice to kill Wes. He hoped by voting this way, it would create a deadlock, but acknowledged the difficulty that emotional allomancers will have on that possibility. Wilson hoped that the Lord Mistborn would reappear before the end of the day, to give the crew direction. Because she didn’t actually think Quillion was bad, nor did she think Wes was, she was left with Shimble, who she agreed had been acting suspiciously. She wasn’t sure the suspicious behavior was enough to lynch him, but it was better than what she had on Ollivier. She expressed a desire to deadlock the vote but knew that was unlikely as there would be at least one emotional allomancer. She voted for Shimble because, if someone has to die, it’s better for that to be the suspicious one than the innocent one. After voting, she hoped that the Lord Mistborn would return, particularly if Shimble actually did have a role they didn’t want to kill. She wished for time to adjust the votes in that event. Maxill retracted his vote for Quillion and voted for Shimble. This vote created a deadlock. Aether updated his list, including himself in the votes for Shimble, but didn’t retract his previous vote for no one, nor did he cast an official vote for Shimble. Vron tried to tell Aether that his vote wouldn’t count. Wilson noted that there are probably multiple emotional allomancers involved in the vote, and because of this, there’s still a remote chance a tie could happen. Unlikely, but possible. VOTING ENDED Cessie took too long catching up on everything so her vote for Shimble didn’t make the deadline. Wilson noted that with a the vote standing at Wes-8, Shimble-7, the result really came down to the emotional allomancers, and hopefully it would end in a deadlock. META POSTED THE WRITE-UP Wilson expressed regret at Shimble’s role and wished the Lord Mistborn had’ve been around to say something. Aonar also expressed regret and said that it should’ve resulted in a deadlock. He was surprised that two votes for Wes were Soothed, since that would require two Soothers being convinced Shimble was the Inquisitor. Aspren admitted that Shimble told him his role, but that he wasn’t able to change his vote in time. The outcome was “unfortunate.” Eddy cursed his liquor for betraying him and leading him into the attack on Shimble. Aonar realized the irony in posting that the only way to help the Inquisitor more would be to kill a Coinshot or a Seeker and then helping to kill a Coinshot. Hero did a bit of role-play: He wished that Shimble hadn’t killed Ffnord, because he liked Ffnord’s hidden messages. (Wilson’s note: I did too. Ffnord is sorely missed.) Cessie had no desire to kill an innocent man but had truly believed Shimble wasn’t innocent. She was horrified at her actions: She wished Shimble had’ve said something more than the little bit he had, or that the Lord Mistborn has stopped the senseless slaughter. Aspren wished once again that the Lord Mistborn had told us his reasoning for targeting Wes. Then we all could’ve tried to “avoid killing anyone.” He wasn’t trying to kill Shimble, but he was trying to prevent a random killing. He stated that Shimble’s blood is pretty much on everyone’s hands—or at least those who voted for either Wes or Shimble. Maxill reminded other crew members that most of the crew behind the Shimble-vote hadn’t voted for Shimble intitally. They were simply looking to force a deadlock, since the Lord Mistborn’s followers sought blood so ferociously. He would’ve preferred not voting at all. Wilson agreed with Maxill. All she was looking for was a deadlock to prevent more death. Aonar defended himself by saying that if he were the Inquisitor, he would’ve “refused to vote,” but broken the deadlock towards the one “more likely to be a misting” with Soothing. That way, he would kill someone important and deflect suspicion. He stated that we should’ve pushed the Quillion/Wes deadlock more, rather than flip to Shimble/Wes. He didn’t feel comfortable going after random people, regardless of how important they are or not. He feels the Lord Mistborn should not be targeting the unimportant ones because regular crew members could be Unsnapped. Aether apologized for his mistake with the vote. He was….distracted…from the game. ----- I believe that is everything. Let me know if I missed anything. EDIT: simple formatting/grammar typos. EDIT: to fix Aonar's gender pronouns. (Laughing progressively harder on each one I had to fix. I feel like an idiot) EDIT: Fixed commissioner from Dyring to Ridge

  6. What I glean from that post is that if we can find out where WoR is being pressed or if we can intercept the shipments, then we could get our hands on an early copy.

  7. I was rereading the Way of Kings (again) and stumbled upon something that piqued my interest. Szeth mentions in the first interlude, that death wishes are sacred to his people (the Shin). I read nothing further into that at first, however that's when I noticed the next quote: So the only one of Taravangian's "patients" to apparently know what's up is a Shin. These two quotes together leads me to the conclusion, that the Shin know more about the death-visions than the other Rosharans. What are your thoughts on the subject?

  14. Note: I feel I should add that this topic is covering things in the WoK, so if you've not read it, and while I don't believe I've said/hit on very anything specific, I guess it could be considered spoiler-ish for WoK. (Now in the comments there are also some brief WoR spoilers pertaining to the revealed chapters.) So I've been watching this board on and off for about a year, and the comment section of the Tor Re-reads, but I've not really seen either of my two ideas come up. Since WoR is coming out soon, and I wanted to post the ideas before that happened: (Edited version: I've heavily edited the original version of this post, or at least the second point of it. I've included things like page references to the Hard Back edition of the book, and some explanations of my thought process at those points, so that it doesn't seem like I'm just trying to force a random idea, without any reasoning. Since this more then doubled the original length of the post, I've included a summary at the top of that point so no need to read the lengthy amount of text that follows it, unless you want to.) #1 "Unite Them" (This one is more then likely moot, due to more recent reveals. So can skip, but I'm leaving it, since there's no reason to toss it out completely, and I still like it as plot point, even if it's considerably less likely to apply to this particular one.) This one has likely been voiced and I missed it, or it's not popularly followed, but I've always thought it possible that it meant Lighteyes and Darkeyes. Got this impression since eye-type is important to Alethi, and a rather large portion of the book seems to focus on Kaladin's experiences that divide him from them. Since Kaladin's experiences are part of our view into the world, I figure that his experiences, perhaps not the specifics, cannot be unique, so there's this rather large gulf of fear/dislike/envy/etc (the usual class warfare mix) that's been brewing, and not many people seem to be addressing it. Doesn't seem healthy for an army, or a people to me, and like it could be an obstacle to all kinds of things. Or a weapon/edge that Kaladin/his supporters could employ to gain him a larger following among the warcamps. (Kal doesn't seem to fond of the hero worship, so unless he deemed it necessary, it would probably be done to/for him by the bridge crew/other supporters.) Or alternately used as a weapon to divide the Alethi into a civil war more chaotic, and likely hate filled, then a war between princes. (Darkeyes really don't get why they're fighting eachother for the Lighteyes back at home, but they'd know why they're fighting the Lighteyes, and they would seem to have many good reasons for it.) #2 Kaladin's Lashings (Cleaned up this section, so that it is no longer the mess I wrote at midnight, and double checked the Ars Arcanum, and actual chapters for quotes.) Summary of Idea: My thought is that Kaladin subconsciously lashed his throwing knives to his targets (generally their eye, or face), greatly improving his aim/likelihood of hitting his target. He makes a number of rather bold throws, given that it is never stated in the book that he spent time training to throw knives, which is with the spear opposite of how the book approaches his ability with the spear. He seems quite good, and it's my understanding that throwing knives is no easy task, let alone some of the ones he is shown managing. Additionally his knives are never described as throwing knives, yet normal knives do not work well for throwing to my understanding. I mean you might hit something, but hitting multiple people in the eye/aiming for the eye seems ambitious without the correct type of knife – unless you just seem to never miss. Additionally we never see him use or think about using knives in the present timeline, just the spear, despite his apparent ability with knives, and the fact he kept two strapped to his spear in Amaram's army. Seems strange he'd never so much as think about them. That's, in a nutshell, why I think he's lashed his knives to his targets with the basic lashing. Much Verboseness: Alright, so I'm not great on which is the Full and which is the reverse off the top my head (full being the sticking things together, and reverse being the one that attracts, if my memory is working properly), but we know for sure of the 2, but people don't seem to think he's done the basic lashing (changing an objects point of gravitation(which way it falls) if i'm getting these right). We know Kaladin can do the Full and Reverse lashings, but it'd not been shown definitively that he does the basic lashing, and many believe that he has not yet done so. The important part of the basic lashing is that the user changes the gravitational anchor of an item (that they're touching), to a point of their choosing. My thought is that he is using the basic lashing in conjunction with this throwing knives, subconsciously, improving his aim and likelihood of hitting his target (possibly considerably). The first time we see Kaladin using his knives is p. 44 of the hard back (6th full paragraph a little more then halfway down the page), “Even as that man fell, Kaladin reached up and flipped a nkife from one of the sheaths tied about his spear. His hand snapped, knife flashing and hitting the thigh of a second foe.” This particular usage of the knife is not that spectacular, and could be put down to him having good aim at close distances and a strong throw. Next time we see Kaladin use a knife is next paragraph, with the line, “A fourth man fell with a knife to the eye.” It doesn't state whether he threw or shoved the knife however. Also unfortunately it's later shown, from Kaladin's perspective, that Cenn mightn't have been the most reliable narrator, being caught up in the chaos and in pain, so we don't get any good evidence of anything out of the ordinary yet. That is unless of course he threw the knife that went through someone's eye, as that's a rather precise shot. Page 46 the instance of knife throwing occurs, about midway down the page describing the fight with an opposing battalionlord, “He impassively regarded those who fought nearby. Then one of Kaladin's knives took him in the right eye.” Again Cenn's narration fails to mention if it's a throw, but I've always interpreted each use of the knives as Kaladin throwing them – perhaps a bad presumption, but it seems apt given that the only time the use is described at first is as a throw, and then nothing other then how effectively he dispatched foes with the knives. This leads me to assume we're mentally supposed to fill in the gap and assume he's throwing again since there would be opportunities for describing shoving a knife into a person that are skipped (but not skipped when it comes to the spear hits/kills). One thing Cenn's narration does make clear is that the Brightlord's helmet was “open-fronted” (5th full paragraph – the one before the above quote). In chapter 47, page 668, the events depicted on p.44 are recounted by Kaladin. Only the first throw is mentioned (Beginning at about halfway down the page, right after the single line stating “No.”), though it is mentioned on the next page that he is handed back his knives. More interesting is Kaladin's recollection about how he feels at this time: “He could not be stopped, not when he felt like this. When he had the energy of defending the fallen, the power of standing to protect one of his men.” Then the next paragraph down: “Sweat trickled from his brow, cooled by the breeze. Odd. There hadn't been a breeze before. Now it seemed to envelop him.” Knowing what we do by the end of the book, it sounds like at the very least Syl was already binding with him at this point, making it possible that he could be performing the basic lashing with his knives. Next Kaladin recounts throwing his knife into the brightlord's eye. Page 670, “The man dropped with a knife to the eye; his face was unprotected.” It's once again not stated that he threw the knife, but it seems to stand to reason. Given that he follows up with the spear, and why bother with getting into position to thrust a knife home, when you've a spear that can do the same work at greater distance. And once again Kaladin got a target directly in the eye, doesn't seem easy. Finally, the last time that we see Kaladin use his knives for throwing is against the Shardbearer. (side track) In the second to last paragraph on page 673, Kaladin is shown to use the spear in close range, over his knife once within range, giving a little credence to my argument above that he threw the knife at the battalion lord and did not physically push the blade, since if he wanted to do that, he'd use his spear as evidenced here by his choice to do so here. (back on topic) Page 674, paragraph 4 (Battling the Shardbearer), “Kaladin strained, hurling himself back onto his feet. He whipped his hand up, flinging his knife at the eyes watching from behind the impervious armor. The dagger hit the faceplate just slightly off from the right angle, bouncing against the side of the slit and ricocheting out.” Also a bit below that, “...slamming the spearhead right in the Shardbearer's visor slit.” I mention this bit since it specifies what I was/am attempting to articulate, in that Kaladin threw the Knives earlier, or (basically) verbs/adverbs/adjectives would've been used to show the action to the reader more. So basically, here, Kaladin decides that one of his best bets in defeating his opponent, is to throw one of his weapons at what sounds to be a nearly impossible shot, taking into account how quickly the series of events in the fight unfold. This either shows desperation, or a total confidence born of almost never missing his mark. Admittedly he was close to his target, but throwing versus what he does with the spearhead a moment later hardly seems like the best move, unless you almost never miss. Which he wouldn't if he was lashing his knives to his target, which appears to be his opponents eyes. Also if he anchored the knife to the eye, it might also be part of why the throw missed, it tried to go directly at the eye, and the direct path was obstructed. Just showing that since even it missing doesn't preclude the use of the lashing. (Fixation on the eyes due to lighteye's screwing up his life? Though he does throw at that darkeyes eyes too, and if your going to aim at someone's face eyes seem as good a target as any. Or it could be that that's where he's anchoring the knives to, and that's why it's mentioned so much.) Finally my biggest issue with this just being explained away as, 'Kaladin's just good at throwing knives,' is that it's not mentioned once that he's trained extensively to throw knives. This is versus the amount and number of times we're told Kaladin practiced with a spear, and how good he is with it. I don't think knives or throwing them even comes up in conversation again. Unfortunately we don't know if any of his spears were dun after the battle, since what happens to him after the Shardbearer's death obstructs the possibility of him finding out, or probably, even taking notice of something slightly out of the ordinary. Combine that with the fact that he is never shown using a knife as a weapon again throughout the current timeline, it just seems like Brandon might just be trying to hint without giving it away. Or I looked at this way too hard. Maybe I missed/am forgetting something and this isn't possible, if so please tell me. Hope these were interesting and not a waste of time, oh, and Hello everyone! P.S. Sorry if anything isn't stated well, I tried.

  15. In the US, the book is $12.74 on Kindle and Google Play (and probably the others). In India, the book will come out March 6th. At least, the ebook should be available then, in India, from Gollancz. I don't know when local bookstores there will actually get copies. You may want to try ordering from the Book Depository, which has free worldwide shipping.

  23. So what started out as a typo (talking about how long inquisitors love live) nearly a year ago has brought me to this. Just in time for the Holiday, enjoy these Mistborn Valentines Day Cards! See all of my Valentine's Day Cards here. See a PDF of printable, foldable versions of these cards here. It was a lot of fun making these, and I will probably do some more in the future. Maybe some Stormlight Archives Valentines? We'll see! If you have any ideas, please send me an email and let me know.

  24. Many threads focused on finding some god use for some apparently uselss power. Here, I'm doing the opposite: take some perfectly good power and squander it in some ridiculous way. here my ideas Surgebinding - infuse yourself with stormlight, then read by night without needing to turn on the light. - use a lashing to bind your trousers tight so you don't need a belt - when opening or closing a door, change gravity on the handle instead of pushing or pulling it. Soulcasting - if you are stuck out under the rain, constantly soulcast the water in your clothes to air so you stay dry (that looks useful enough, but you could just soulcast an umbrella) - turn ink to blood. Sign everything in blood, because it's cool Awakening - awaken the ties of your shoes and have them tie themselves, because you are THAT lazy - same for your cravat - awaken the food you're cooking and tell it to stir itself now I'm wondering if you could use awakening to do household chores; that would actually be useful Allomancy - have a keyboard specifically made of metal for you. type by steelpushing (i figure it would be much more difficult than just using the fingers. maybe vin or kelsier could have typed at a reasonable speed and used their hands to do other things) - have a layer of metal under the pavements, roofs and walls in your house. float in your house instead of walking. - put a metal collar on your dog. use a subtle ironpull on it instead of a common leash. Feruchemy - use alcohol or drugs freely. tap gold to prevent damage to yoru body. tap more gold if you need to be sober to drive. - only for kids: fill gold to stay home from school - tap a lot from bronze to make a sauna without the sauna. Bonus points if you're in your garden in the middle of the winter dressed only with a towel and swaeting like hell. Extra bonus points if you accumulate all that heat by walking around with an heavy coat in summer. Find others!

  26. I'm pretty new to this, so forgive any errors or lapses in information. I don't think anyone else has done this, but if they have I apologize. When I first got into the theororizing/wild speculation side of the way of kings, I found this ars arcanum to be very helpful, if incomplete. So using mainly the information found here I updated the ars arcanum. I added Order and Surge names, as well as known members. I didn't include any order/surge/herald thumbnails, though, as I don't have any of those images on hand. I also made the document in excel, but I can't upload the document itself, so I'll just use pictures instead. If I made any mistakes or omissions, let me know!

  27. In the US, bookstores do their restocking on Tuesdays. In the UK, bookstores do their restocking on Thursdays. That is why the US release for Words of Radiance is March 4th and the UK release is March 6th. Why do they do it on those days? I have no idea. The US and the UK are different markets with different tastes. It is in Brandon's best interest to use a UK publisher to market books in the UK and a US publisher to market books in the US. Each publisher knows their local market and how to best serve it. At least this is the theory, and it seems to bear out. Commonwealth or former commonwealth countries get looped in with the UK publishing contracts because that is the way it has always been done. UK publishers will try to get Canada rights too, but American authors generally give their Canada rights to the US publisher. Some authors sell World English rights to one company, and that may mean less money for the author. For example, Tor is the best SF/F publisher in the US, but Tor is a minor presence in the UK and I have no idea what their Australia/New Zealand presence is like. However, Orbit also has a rather good presence in the US now, and it has always had a great UK/Australia/New Zealand presence, so selling World English rights to Orbit may not be a bad deal at all. (Gollancz, which is Brandon's UK publisher, and Orbit are owned by the same company, but operate separately.) Mitosis is a case of us and Brandon's agent dropping the ball. The US publisher commissioned it. The UK publisher didn't really know about it because everyone forgot to tell them. When it did come out, and we realized there wasn't a UK edition, we considered putting it out ourselves. But now it looks like Gollancz will most likely put it out. Negotiations are still underway. By the way, Gollancz usually gets its book files straight from Tor. They don't even change the spellings or the quotation marks. Sometimes the UK mass market paperbacks are re-set with UK style—I think the split Way of Kings paperback was done this way. But the Gollancz hardcovers look just like the US ones on the inside.

  28. I cheated, this isn't my first post. I made one about a couple of WoK theories first (a few minutes ag), but then felt bad and decided to make this one. Basically it's taken me a while to feel comfortable enough to post something, and now that I have I feel a bit better. So i hear this is the place to be if you like the Cosmere and Brandon is one of your favorite authors, so it's nice to be here. Also thanks to who ever came up with The Coppermind. It's awesome and it was a huge help to me in starting to figure out the Cosmere and getting a different look at Mistborn. It's also what ultimately led me to this this site, so all around it's been a big help. Favorite by Brandon is likely the Mistborn trilogy (for now at least), and it was also my first of his works. I read the whole trilogy in paper back in about 4 days, and was rewarded by sobbing for around 4 hours on a Sunday night. That was harsh. Also why I love Brandon's writing, nothing had had such an effect on me before, and nothing else has in such a degree since. This was longer then I thought it'd be, so: Hi again, nice to finally participate a bit.

  29. I JUST reread that passage last night, and was considering a topic on it. When attempting to communicate with gestures you try to simplify everything. One gesture, one word kind of thing. Hand to ear is obviously hearing, or listening. But the hand COVERING the ear implies the opposite. Pointing at someone is obviously "you". So we have: hear you. Or perhaps: no hear you. Being that their name is Listener, I think the gesture was the Parshendi equivalent of the middle finger.

  30. To quickly recap the most popular ideas... 1. Shardblade/Honorblade 2. Soulcaster (or other Fabrial) 3. Infused Gem/Gemheart 4. Creature/animal that absorbs stormlight (perhaps a Larkin?) 5. A Spren of some sort 6. Something new #1-3 - Shardblade, Soulcaster, Fabrial, Gem - In my opinion, these are all unlikely because they are all inanimate. I think it's unlikely that Shallan would refer to any of those things as a "monster", even if they were used to kill somebody. #4 - Creature/Animal - I find this also somewhat unlikely because Shallan actually has an affinity for weird, even monstrous animals. If some strange unknown animal was in the safe she would be more likely to study it and draw it than call it a monster. Or, to put it another way, if she had been traumatized as a child by a strange dangerous "monster" animal, she would probably not be so comfortable around strange animals as an adult. #5 - Spren - I'm concluding that this is the most likely. It could be simply a weird/frightening spren, or an Odium-corrupted evil Spren, or maybe even a creature/animal infused with a corrupted Spren? #6 - Something new - Obviously we can't prove or disprove this, of course there could be something new we don't know about yet. So, strongly leaning towards #5 above, here's a rough theory... Notice that Shallan talks about a monster in the safe, but also refers to herself as a monster.... what if it's the *same* monster, in a sense? Theory: The safe contains an evil Spren that possessed Shallan, causing her to kill everyone - The "monster" in the safe is a powerful malevolent Spren, perhaps trapped in some sort of glowing fabrial, or even "trapped" in the body of some creature it's possessing. - The men came to steal the Spren. They forced Shallan's mother to open the safe, and then killed her with the Shardblade. - Shallan wandered in, somehow became possessed by the Spren, and "hulked out", using its powers to kill everyone violently. - Shallan's father shows up. He is able to recapture the Spren and put it back in the safe, returning Shallan to normal. - Shallan feels like a "monster" because she lost control and killed everyone. Meanwhile, the "monster" is now in the safe. - Shallan's father claims the Shardblade from the thieves. Shallan is possibly the only one who knows of its existence. She later kills her father so she can take the Shardblade before it falls into the wrong hands. IMO this is the best theory so far, but it still requires a lot of speculation obviously because we just don't have enough data. But I'm fond of the idea that the word "monster" in both places is very intentional.

  36. This time eddy was sitting alone at the bar. It seems that his drunken attitude made some suspicious of him. He tried to drink from his Brandy-bottle but found it empty. This is not good. Maybe it is time to let go of the boze. A walk would help but the damnation mists are still outside. The bouncer tried to think of something to win his drinkindbuddys back, sadly his drunken mind was not the most compassionate. "Zo, the good nevz is that Sipkeface can´t go stabby stabby join doing on one of uz thiz night cauz doc, the poor fella, was not a misting, right?" Eddy forgot his good intend and got hold of a random bottle at soon as he finished talking. Wilson congratulation for making Eddy´s drunkeness funny even in a recap and the lists awsomeness as a whole.

  41. Was browsing reddit when I saw a thread about the effect on Earth if the original supercontinent had never broken up. I know WoB has confirmed that the Stormlight Archive is set on a supercontinent, and one post stuck out to me. http://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/1wntee/if_the_continents_never_left_pangea/cf3rt6r Apparently it is theorized that regular massive hurricanes would be one of the results. Don't know if Brandon knew and planned for that to be the case, but either way it's worked out well for him.

  42. Excellent list! Now we, as the readers, just need to decide, as Aether would say -- "what kind of particular truth your list is telling." Edit: I wish I could upvote seven times for the Chandrian reference... just for Kvothe's sake.

  45. They picked 30 of them and I weeded out the ones that were too spoilery. One of them was something that was supposed to be a huge surprise, and I think they picked that one just to mess with me. My comment was HAHAHAHA NO. Or something like that. I'm pretty sure I can blame it on Carl.

  46. I think this has to be somewhat true, and apply to more than just Shardblades. Stormlight has got to provide some sort of defence against the various tools of the Knights Radiant, or it's going to be really hard for Sanderson to build suspense. This is especially true for Soulcasting. "Oh look, an assassin"Zzap"Oh look, a paperweight". And this makes sense within the framework of the Cosmere, since Investiture protects against other Invested effects.

  47. It's hard to say. It might help to have the relevant quotes: Note that it is westward of Alethela and not necessarily in the west. Some theorize it was in Shinovar, however. Here, we see Jasnah say Urithiru was not in Natanatan, which is now called the Shattered Plains. She may be lying, or misdirecting Shallan, or any number of things. However, the Shattered Plains are south-east of Alethkar, and apparently Urithiru was to the west of Alethkar, so I feel that Jasnah's conclusion that Urithiru cannot be the Shattered Plains is correct. The sheer distances involved are a clue, I think. 'Direct method' implies there was a way other than walking hundreds of miles, unless Nohadon took a very roundabout route. Here is a map. If we knew where Abamabar was, it would be enormously helpful. In any case, going from Somewhere to Kholinar to Veden City seems impossible without some sort of teleportation. I would guess, based on the complaints of tariffs, that all the major cities were connected to Urithiru through "Oathgates" or some other thing. Once you went to Urithiru, the Radiants taxed you (with huge tariffs) for moving goods through it, and then you could go to any other city. In summary, I don't know where Urithiru is. Our only evidence is 'west of Alethela' and 'within hundreds of miles of Abamabar'. Abamabar may be where Nohadon's kingdom was, but apparently Kholinar was still around. This is from Dalinar's vision with Nohadon. It seems Nohadon's city was Kholinar, which makes me wonder if it was was known as Abamabar in ages past. In any case, everywhere west of Alethkar seems to be explored/inhabited. It seems odd that Urithiru would have vanished. Here's some possibilities: Urithiru was in Shadesmar, the place Jasnah and Shallan go. Problem: this is not 'west' of Alethkar. Advantage: It explains why no one lives there now. Also, teleportation apparently involves Shadesmar (according to Brandon). Urithiru was in Aimia. Aimia was 'scourged', which could be because Urithiru was there and people were turning against the Radiants. Problem: people know about Aimia, why is Urithiru considered a myth? Advantage: Well, it's about as west as you can go. Urithiru is currently underwater in the Reshi Sea. Problem: We don't know if Roshar is a stable landmass or not. Advantage: It is just westward of Alethkar, and would explain why people think it's myth. It's also close to the Purelake, which may be Cultivation or Honor's Shardpool. Hopefully this gives you some ideas, Rade.
